My old guitar teacher used to do gigs with a MIJ Squie Stratocaster and he was one hell of a guitar player so they´re nice guitars according to him when i asked him.
300 seem like a good price to IMO

A Japanese Squier with Duncans for $300 seems good to me. You might want to change out the bridge pickup for something a little hotter than an SSL1 (or not, you might like it). The switch may be a bit scratchy. A good solid guitar, very well made. With a set up, one of those would be good enough for a pro, no question.

A series strat from japan, not a bad deal. You could do worse but go play for a while before you make the jump.
