Strat Finish Question

I just pulled the trigger on a 2012 Fender American Standard Strat. I've always had Gibson's in the past, what is the finish on the black strats? Is it anything similar to Gibson's nitro finish where you have to be careful of the stand you put it on?

AFAIK it doesn't have a lacquer finish but a poly one ... so I assume: NO problems ...
What stand do you use?

I have a cheap GC stand for a few guitars. I'm looking at getting a hercules for my Gibson though.

I believe it's going to depend on the model. Some Fenders are coming out with Nitro finish and some with Poly and I don't know the specifics for your specific model.

2012 American Standard is poly. The nitro guitars are CS models, the AVRI 57, AVRI 62, 57 HR, 62 HR, Highway 1 (now discontinued) and some of the signature models. Keep in mind, all Fender guitars have a clear poly undercoat, and they have since about 1963. Even then, the "nitro" they use today is not the same nitro of the "golden years."

What about the satin finish Gibson uses on the Tribute Lesters? Should I be careful what stand I use?

I know this is a Fender thread but most of us here have both.

My Eric Johnson is all nitro (Neck & body)...just to be safe I have wrapped all the contact points of the stand in 100% cotton.

That's what I think I'm going to do. I only have one Hercules stand and it's in use for my LP and I have two regular stands not in use and one of the satin finished Tribute LP's on the way.
