Yep, with 2008 came the new & improved "American Standard" series, so the previous models are out. Off the top of my head the updates include:

- A copper bridge block (whereas the old models had steel, I believe...Mexican models used zinc)

- Bent steel saddles (the old ones were steel as well, but with a sharper, more modern design)

- Staggered tuning keys (IE, the G shaft is lower than the low E, and the high E is lower than the G, in order to increase tension on the nut)

- Satin finish on the back of the neck and a polished finish on the fingerboard, with a "relic" style tint. It's not really relic'd, just darker than brand new maple. The older necks were polished on both sides.

- The smaller, 50's style headstocks vs the very slightly larger 60's style.

I don't remember anything else, but I think that just about covers it. Anybody else, please feel free to chime in.

Bottom line is the '08 models are very fine and I'm surprised I haven't GAS'd and bought one already.

You forgot the case, new case with the new standards. And the block is what they are calling copper infused steel whatever the F that is.And the finish (undercoat) is suspossed to be thinner. I like em, the 07 ( AM series ) are good guitars also. But the 08 standards are a bit nicer.

The older necks where satin both sides not polished. The new ones are satin on back of neck , gloss on finger board. The headstock shape has not changed as far as I know.

As for the original ? yes they mean pre 08 AM standards , they are or where speaking of the AM series guitars.

Every time the MFers or Guitar Center says "Get 'em before they're gone!" everybody freaks out.

Same thing happened a couple years ago when they were clearing out the SG 61's and panic ensued.

It means they are getting rid of old inventory, not that they will no longer be manufactured.

Retailing has risen to a new level, or people have sunk to a new low.
If Musician's Friend or Guitar Center told me the sun was coming up tomorrow, I'd have to see it for myself before I believed it.
They purposely mislead customers as a core business principle.

No ,the AM SERIES is no longer manufactured ,they have been replaced with the AM standard line, not to be confused with the other AM standard which was disscontinued in 99 , 2000? and replaced with the AM series ,which is now disscontinued and replaced with the new AM standard line.

Dumb me you are showing teles not strats ,ya! the AM teles are disscontinued also ,replaced with the AM standards same changes as the strat but of course no trem block. Talk about brain dead
