Re: Decadence and Sacrilege-I bought a Strat!

I tried a used Malmsteen once, it was actually pretty easy to play, but I couldn't get used to not feeling a fretboard. I'm just not good enough to warrant a scalloped fretboard anyway!

Myself I would really like to just have one for the novelty of it I guess more or less. Due to my hand injury yrs ago my left hand strength isnt very strong lol I have a severd nerve in my ring finger as part of that injury so I dont feel the frt board with that finger much anyways. But I really didnt see much difference with the scalops anyways.

I have a real bad tendency to use too much pressure, so it really shows on scalloped/ monster jumbo fret necks. I really have to concentrate to ease up. I have to say it played butter-smooth when I wasn't trying to strangle it!

I thought that might be what you meant, but wasn't sure.

I love the neck, also how it's balanced . It can sound like a Les Paul with the TBX circuit.

Eric Clapton Stratocaster®

Our Eric Clapton Stratocaster has Lace pickups, plus powerful active mid-boost and TBX circuits, all of which make it one of the most versatile instruments we offer. Other features include a special soft V-shaped neck and a blocked original vintage synchronized tremolo bridge.

Bro,
You know I understand that. I can't even use my Dad's stuff.

You Illiterate ? yeah ok. Tell the others ,maybe they'll believe it

Fender did away with the Lace pickups last few years.
If you ever get a chance to play a clapton try it.
It's my main practice guitar, so damn comfortable. Plays like Butta !
and that circuit can give it the LP sound.

yeah I have tried and played em , I got a big mitt, though they aint bad, I prefer more roundness to my guitar necks . of my 30 Les Pauls, of course Miss Honey has the slimmest of necks, then the thickest is on my Orville which is somewhere between a 58-59 profile, the Franken Paul has a neck in between the two. The newer JB Necks are inbetween the 59 and 60 LP's in profile, the way they feel to me . I used to nearly hate huge 54-57 style necks but over time I have gotten quite used to em

I use this in two bands.

I'd rather use my Les Paul but both bands requested I use this. I'm not a big fan of Strats so it pains me to use it.

Re: Decadence and Sacrilege-I bought a Strat!

I hear ya. Now that I've had mine a few weeks, I'm beginning to hate the piece of shit.

Do they make good firewood?

Every time I play that Crapocaster, I'm wishing I was playing one of my Gibsons. As far as I'm concerned, they're all crap, regardless of model.
Fender makes $300 pieces of shit, and the $1,800 pieces of shit are still shit, just more expensive.

What a f*ckin' mistake. Now I have to either unload it or burn it.

Yeah, that's the problem! I tend to attack the strings, and it causes buzzing, even thru the amp. It just doesn't fit my playing style at all. It plays ok, and really sounds great, but it's just a pain in the ass to have to coddle it.
I wonder how much Fender pays guys like Clapton, Beck, Buddy Guy and Townshend to use them? I mean, they gotta be paying them, it can't be because they actually like them....can it?

*LOL* Yeah, I did...but I was just busting on people, anyway. Hell, I wish I could get more. Now I have this piece of shit Fender, and I'll be back to 3 guitars again anyway after I either:

Sell it
Burn it
Smash it onstage (But I'm not in a band now, so that isn't really an option)

It would be great to sell it, but really more fun to smash the motherf*cker.

Re: Decadence and Sacrilege-I bought a Strat!

I love my Les Pauls, but there are just some songs that dont
sound right with them, Like Deep Purple, SRV, Hendrix, new Clapton
new Beck, and of course the Wammy.
Everything else, Les Pauls are fantastic.

Eggshell white 60th Aniversary limited edition with Duncan JB's and Hot Noisless PU's
I dont like the look of the JB's but they sound awesome, they should make Cream
covers instead of White.

early 90's Strat with EMG's (preamped) wilkison nut

Re: Decadence and Sacrilege-I bought a Strat!

Ok, I take it back. I tried to approach the Stat the same way I approach a Gibson, and THAT was my problem. The Strat is a totally different animal, and requires some getting used to.
I'm getting more used to it every day, and instead of disliking the differences, I'm embracing them now.

This Strat is great! I'll get some pics, soon!

ColdSteal...NICE Strats, man!

I'm still in your corner, man! *lol* I just like the Strat sound for some things, not necessarily trying to sound like anyone else.

Tell you what....I've been playing since 66 and this is my first Strat, so what does that tell ya? I just got a good deal on this one, and it's really the first Strat that felt comfortable to me.

I couldn't live without my strat.

My favorite strat style guitar is a G&L Legacy with a 12" radius fretboard and a big comfy V-neck.

Re: Decadence and Sacrilege-I bought a Strat!

There's no doubt there is a vast difference between a Strat and an LP I have and will also always rely on my Les Pauls for the bulk of my playing tone, but I admit there are times when I gotta have that Strat for certain tones , I bonded with my Squire so much , and made a mistake selling it, I am glad I was able to get it back A lil variety is always a good thing

Re: Decadence and Sacrilege-I bought a Strat!

I'm a newbie on this forum, have 2 LP's, 2 Epi's, 1 strat. My strat is an American HH, (2 humbuckers) changed the fender Black Cobra in the bridge out to a Seymore Duncan, left fender sidewinder in the neck. (for now)
It screams, not an LP, but it does have its own sound. I personally like
the Strat body stile as far as comfort goes. But like you guys have said,
it does NOT sound anything like an LP. But I have gibson dirty fingers I might
put in the neck. Little afraid to do it, might be too much!

Re: Decadence and Sacrilege-I bought a Strat!

The Strat that I got is a Classic 50's series Strat.
A reissue of the 50's Strat. It's an MIM, but I took
one of my buddies with me, and he's an absolute Strat FREAK. That's all he plays. Plus, the manager in the store that I do biz with is a Strat-o-holic, too and they both reccomended it to me. So, I'm playing it thru a Fender Deluxe amp, and there's this guy sitting there next to me and he says "Wow...you don't GET a better Strat sound than that"...and this guy was a customer (he plays in a popular local band).
In fact the manager, brought over another guitar for me to try to compare with it. I tried it and said, No,
I like this MIM better.... Come to find out, the OTHER one was an Eric Johnson model, which cost $1,800!

The one that I got was about 1/3 of that price. I found out that Fender cuts all the pieces in their U.S. factory, and ships them to Mexico for assembly.
That way, they can keep the price down. I don't really see a lot of difference between the higher end MIMs and the U.S. made Strats.

Your right tho you cant attack a strat they attack you.
I had to play my white strat for years before it was
natural to play, like you said you have to make the strat
play, they arent an easy sustain guitar like a Les Paul or
SG, the notes drop off twice as fast, you just got to mess
with them after about a year then you find yourself getting
even better on Les Paul its almost like working out with
lead bats before you go to bat with your Les Paul, its really
kind of good to play them.
I would say the only thing easier about them is that thier
necks are thiner...thats about it hahah

Jeff Beck said "I dont play strats because they are easier, i play
them because they are hard to play"

Thats it, its a chalenge, its like working out on the bag
it actualy helps your LP playing. its a good workout.
I was the same way, i had one after High School but
traded it for an SG and didnt go back till 20 years later
been playing one since as well as Gibsons.
you cant Hold a note like you can a Les Paul no way
not without feedback at least.

Yep everything for an MIM is made in Corona, they just put them together
and paint them in Mexico, thier bottom line pickups and pots arent USA
made other than that they are a US instrument assembled in Mexico.
All the hardware is the same thats on the expensive ones.
