Exclamation $40,000.00 Strat

Buy Fender Custom Shop John Cruz Masterbuilt Samurai Stratocaster Electric Guitar | Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt Guitars | The Music Zoo | JC1819

Quote:

Every year when we board the plane to head to NAMM, we anticipate what unique showpieces are going to blow us away. For 2012, the decision came quick, as this Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt instrument easily took the cake.

Meet the Samurai Stratocaster, a collaboration between some of the top builders and artists in the business to create a true masterpiece. This one-of-a-kind was built together by the one and only John Cruz at the Custom Shop. It has a leather pickguard that has been designed and tooled by Dru Whitefeather which has been colored in and painted by Pamelina. The Indian rosewood fretboard has gorgeous inlay art done by Ron Thorn, and of course Cruz put his own magic into selecting some of the finest pieces of maple and koa for the neck and body.

What we really appreciate about this instrument is that it's not only made to be a cosmetic showpiece, it's been crafted to sound and feel like a top-shelf instrument should. It is a musical instrument after all. With it's super-comfortable '60s "C" neck shape, 21 jumbo frets, and set of Custom Shop '60s Stratocaster pickups, the Samurai Strat sounds exactly like a high-class Strat should. Even if this Stratocaster sits in a glass display for its entire life, the fact that it's ready and waiting to be played with such quality functional features makes us love it even more.

Re: $40,000.00 Strat

It's not so much a guitar as it is a work of art. It's not meant to be played, it's meant to hang on a wall or in a display case. An expensive knick-knack for dentists, lawyers, executives, etc.

Not really news, though, PRS has been doing this for years.

Hope the next one does not have that girly vive, that blue and pink appointments just don't cut it for me.

Inlay work is amazing and JC always does great work.

Re: $40,000.00 Strat

I really do not know what to say. This is somehow outside of my understanding of the world. I love art and the artistry of that piece is wonderful but, somehow I feel like a guitar should be played. I feel like something about the art will not be actualized if music is not made with it. However I also feel like making art and then experiencing it should not be limited to oil paints and canvass. Well at least now I have something to thing about. I did notice that adjusting the truss rod could be problematic.

He's talking about it like he's expecting the buyer to play it a lot...

Now honestly who would ever gig with that

Sure, it's well done, but $40K it isn't. Crazy kids.
