Hey every1!
I'm seriously considering buying a US Telecaster... Only thing I'm concerned about is that would I use it as much as I do use my Epiphone les Paul? Also would I enjoy playing it considering that the only electric guitars I've had have been Les Paul's. Is there anything better about a telecaster compared to a Les Paul? And in general how do they compare? Sorry for so many questions! SlashB

Re: Considering getting a Tele!
Can ya rent or borrow one? all the answers to your ?s will be answered once you spend some time with one. The 08 stanards are nice guitars. IMO for a Les Paul player, or should say a person that only has had experenice with a LP, will ,upon playing a strat or Tele in a music store for only a short while, may not be able to appreciate it .
Either that or you will love it. But it can take some time to wrap you head around one. they work great IMO for just about everything. Like the other Fender models there are quite a few different Teles out there . any idea which you would like? |

A proper Tele will get this "junkyard dog" snarl going on the bridge pickup that doesn't really happen on a LP (a junior can come close).
In addition, the Tele seems to make me play with a bit more "attitude" which I like (draws some compliments too). As always, YMMV. |

Try a New American Strat too, make sure it's the new series. Those things are raging with great sounds and will make you a believer real fast.

I love teles but I would only suggest a american made one....I really like the 52 re-issue and just the standard. The Standard come in a swamp ash and alder body, try both.... they get a springyness you can not get out of a LP

Re: Considering getting a Tele!
You should always have a Gibson and a Fender, at least that's what I think. I'd go with the new Am. Std. Strat and set the trem flush to the body and maybe even secure with a wood block (minor labor and done with initial set-up). The Strat has a broader palette with the 5 position switch.
But again, I would not feel complete unless I had both a Gibson and a Fender. They both do too many things the other doesn't. Plus, you really want a neck thru as well as a bolt-on, definitely. Some days are neck thru days and some days are bolt-on days, basically. |

Re: Considering getting a Tele!
I started a thread on this same subject on a Telecaster forum, and the advice I got that seemed to make the most sense was:
"you need the highway 1 TEXAS tele. 12" fretboard radius similar to a gibson. it is a 52 AVRI with a better, thinner finish that wears beautifully." I haven't acted on it yet, but since I can't really get out where I can play different models before buying, a Texas will probably be my first (returnable) Tele purchase. There were, of course, many different enthusiastic recommendations (esp. Baja), but the consensus was that the Texas would be the easiest for an LP player to adjust to. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...tar?sku=515122 |

Tonewise a tele is a different and disctintive tone. Some folks don't like the trebly bridge pickup but you can work on it a nd make that thing bark. |

Re: Considering getting a Tele!
G&L Asat - has two large MFD pickups. I think it would be a great side kick to your Epi. Paul. It will have alot of attitude like the Epi., but it will be in a brighter flavor.
Asat Classic - more trad.tele and you will need to be ready for that jump in brightness. I'm personaly going the other way. I have played Asat's for many years and now just got a Les Paul a week ago. Like me, these guitars will make you play different. The tele will tell you off if your not cutting it. Seriously, look into the G&L line. If you not sure if your really a tele type or not check out the G&L Tribute series. These are the best $500 Tele/Strat guitars you will find. More so if you can find them used $300-350.... |
