Check out this 50th Anniversary Strat...

A friend of mine is selling it. I have a buyer overseas, but if something doesn't work out I'll put it up for sale here.

Virtually unplayed, case candy and everything. OHSC included.

Re: Check out this 50th Anniversary Strat...

Ya, I wouldn't either. The owner isn't playing it, and has an LP copy he plays when he occasionally noodles.

He wants the $$ for another purchase.

Re: Check out this 50th Anniversary Strat...

I'm sorry, that's not a 50th anniversary model. The "Z4" serial indicates it's from 2004. Also, all USA made 50th and 60th Strats and Teles came in sunburst only. It's also missing some key things like the sticker on the back of the headstock, rounded heel, etc.

Edit - it's still a nice USA strat, just wanted to clarify what it isn't. Very pretty color.

Re: Check out this 50th Anniversary Strat...

Thanks for the info--I'll pass that along.

It's actually a 2005; the Z4 serial numbers did go into that year.

In any case--what would be a fair value? It's basically new, with about 10 hours of play.

Re: Check out this 50th Anniversary Strat...

Yea, Fender starts dating stuff a couple months early. My 60th Tele has a late Z5 serial *shrug*

Given that it's mint with a hardshell case I'd say fair value's around $700-800 (not including shipping). I bet it's a lovely player.

Re: Check out this 50th Anniversary Strat...

Cool. (phew) I'm selling it for a friend, and that's what a guy is willing to pay for it. (Plus shipping... ) I didn't want to ask too much.

It's a great playing guitar, and I absolutely LOVE the color. Candy-apple red rocks.

Re: Check out this 50th Anniversary Strat...

Actually I misinterpreted the OP - I thought he was indicating it was a Fender 50th Anniversary model from 96 and not the Strat 50th Anniversary model, which was indeed 2004. That said, it's still not THE model in question, it just happens to be from the same year.

This is the Strat 50th:

This is the Fender 50th, which is indeed Vintage White, but with chrome hardware:

And this is the Fender 50th decal I mentioned earlier:

They also made a run of 2500 sunburst Fender 50th strats. Sorry for the confusion!

Hey--no worries. Thanks for clearing it up.

I missed the boat on the whole 50th Anniversary thing.

A guy I know bought one of these on my recommendation. Now he tells everyone that's it must be a bitza fake pile of shit after the %0th anniversary of the strat model came out. It's a real nice sunburst and he's a bit of a dick.

The fact they did two 50th's invites a lot of wordplay and misunderstanding During Fender anniversary years you'll see decals like the one below on the back of every headstock on every guitar - I've even got a Jagstang from 96 that has one.

I want to say all 2004 strats got the 50th neck plate (pretty sure, but not certain off the top of my head), but the only official anniversary models are the sunburst model I noted and of course the Custom Shop model in Aztec Gold.

He bought a Fender 50th model from 96 and thinks it's crap? Hell, I'll take it if he hates it that much Based on my experience with my own and others, all of the official company anniversary models - be them American or Mexican - appear to get select woods and attention to detail.

Like I've noted before, I have a Mexican Fender 60th strat and the body and neck on it are beasts. I don't have a scale anymore, but I've compared and I know it outweighs some swiss cheese LP's. It has fantastic acoustics.

It's on its way to NYC, and from there goes to the Czech Republic.

Re: Check out this 50th Anniversary Strat...

+It gets confusing because they (Fender) have what is called say 40th, 50th ann. of FENDER and then have the 40th, 50th ANN. of the Fender Stratocaster , which came out, as we know in 1954. when I was only 1yr old.

Ugh, this is the confusion I've been trying to clear up. Every guitar from 96 came with a little sticker on the back of the headstock to honor Fender's 50th anniversary as a company. This doesn't indicate it's an official 50th anniversary commemorative model. They released specific commemorative models of the standard Strat, standard Tele, and Precision and Jazz Basses. These are all USA made, but I know at least the Strat and Tele had Mexican made versions (as someone else noted, in Aztec Gold) and CS models, too.

I can't find hardly anything from NAMM 96 that details it like this, but they did essentially the same thing in 2006. Here's a good rundown. Every guitar from 2006 has a 60th anniversary sticker on the back of its headstock, but only the USA commemorative models have the diamond on the front. Once again, these only came in sunburst while the Mexican and CS versions got their own color schemes.

Note the models I've been trying to describe are all officially called "Commemorative" models. Thanks to Fender's confusing semantics it's easy to find sellers describing something as a 60th anniversary model when it's not one of these models.

Here's a good rundown explaining the Stratocaster's 50th anniversary commemorative models from 2004.

Re: Check out this 50th Anniversary Strat...

This is my 50th anniversary. Notice it has the 50th brand on the pick guard, neck plate and on the case as well. This one has very little play time and is just like the day I bought it new.

I've got the same one - a 50th Anniversary American Deluxe Series Stratocaster
