New Guitar Day! My first STRAT!

AWESOME SCORE TODAY!

I've always been interested in getting a Strat but wasn't crazy about single coils nor a tremolo system [why get a strat? i know.. but I love the feel of them, so different than my LP Custom].. anyway..

Was at BEST BUY on 14th in NYC today, of all places, and I had no idea that they sell musical instruments, so I was surprised to see the guitar i've been gassing over hanging on the wall..

It's the Billy Corgan signature strat.. US made, 9.5" radius, jumbo frets, hardtail, custom dimarzio pickups, flat black nitro finish, maple neck with modern C shape.. pretty much the strat i've always been looking for!

I've never been able to play one in person, and I don't like buying guitars online without playing it first, so finding it was a nice treat..

What was an even NICER treat was the price! This guitar retails for $1499 EVERYWHERE. Best buy had it on sale, BRAND NEW and basically untouched, for $999, with an ADDITIONAL 10% off just because it was hanging on the wall [top rack of the wall, out of reach of the pedestrians, so thats nice]

I thought I was seeing things.. ended up walking out the door with it for $979 with a tweed case, full case candy, the whole deal. uh-mazing!!

I never thought i'd steer towards the "dark side" but I really like this one!

I bought my first ever Strat yesterday too and agree about how they feel.

It's basically a hot rodded Strat, just not for anything heavy. Looks really nice, congrats!

I have a white one, actually you can get pretty heavy sounds out of this thing, the bridge pickup is high output but smooth with lots of low end; its pretty close to the "Super Distortion S" which is Dimarzio's highest output rail/single coil pickup for strats.

ZK you're right, I just got home, plugged in, and have been blazing on it for a few minutes now.. lots of bite, this guitar can do the Fender strat thing but also has a punch that most strats dont

On the bridgeI keep the treble side of the pickup pretty high up, but you have to lower the bass side a bit...unless you like to move some air when you play.

So far I love this guitar, and it's set up straight from the factory, so that's saying something.

First step: install Schaller strap locks.
Second : new strings, I normally use 12s on my LP, tuned down a full step.. I think for this guitar I'm going to go with 10s, tuned normally.
Third: action is a little bit high, will adjust, and adjust truss and intonate to account for new string gauge.

One thing I really like is the flat black nitro finish.. it's really beautiful. looks totally different than the finish on my LP Custom. I'm also digging the fretboard radius, really comfy.
