Saw these today. Looks too good to be true. Wonder how long before Gibson sues? :hmm:

Oh, that finish does not look like Nitro laquer. Way too shiny. Think I'm gonna steer clear of these....

I get Music Ground's email with the stuff they're selling, got this today -

"The "Faux" Burst
The following instrument was produced by two of the worlds most respected guitar luthiers /restorers , indistinguisable from an original "59" Burst , both in tone /sound /cosmetic appearance , this is the worlds most accurate reproduction that is being officially marketed /sold as a "Replica" Burst , full details as follows
Gibson "Replica" Burst
1958 (Serial number)
Sunburst
Figured Top
Original "PAFs"
50s Electronic /Hardware Assembley (correct pots + stop bar + tunamatic)
Aged Nitro Finish (correct /expected finish wear)
Correct pickup /control cavity routing (100% identical to an original)
Original 50s Brown California Girl Case

Notes /Comments/History
Based on accuracey of production the instrument has taken several years to produce , the laquer /finish has the patena , look of an original 50s burst and has not the look of simply a mass produced "Manufcatured" relic
Sound /Tone
The instrument has the sound /vibe /mojo of an original "50s" burst
Notes /Comments
The above instrument is being marketed /sold as a "Replica" , indistinguisable from an original except for pricing"

So far so good, nothing too strange but then I saw the price -
*Price £18,999 (Approx. $31538 €21278 ) *

:wow:

I'm interested if anyone on this forum would pay that for a non-Gibson replica LP - I know I wouldn't!!!! :naughty:

What is this Gibbon guitar? Funny name... It looks like a good, nice oldie... But it has bolt-on neck. Do you think this guitar might be good? Or it might be a piece of junk. Oh that headstock looks quite Gibson-like LOL!

I'll try this and other guitars this guy is selling next week. Any thoughts any advice?

Thanks in advance

For those of you who have imported guitars from other countries, could you tell me what you pay? I usually use SEA which takes ages (8-10 weeks) but is really quite cheap, worked out to around £30 a guitar.

Fed up of waiting and not wanting a guitar stuck in customs over christmas I thought I would use SAL (2-3 weeks) quite surprised to see that it's going to cost me around £90/$150!!!!! This is normally EMS rates and looking on Ebay you'll see that most of the sellers sending to Europe quote between $140-155.

Doesn't matter where you're from or what currency you use I would like an idea as to if you think you're being ripped off. After paying my commission and then the extra costs (mystery charges), I'm very disappointed to be quoted this large fee. Throw into the equation customs charges and then the possibility that it may come damaged, for the first time since I've been buying guitars I'm wondering if it's worth it any more!!!!!!!

Would have put this in the other thread I've started on this topic (buying abroad) but as it's not worthy of a sticky I couldn't be arsed to search for it.

Im just telling you as I was in a guitar shop yesterday trying out a Marshall JCM 2000 DSl 401 combo. I just picked up this Burny and it felt and played very good. Much better than most epi's ive tried, the workmanship was top notch too. So if anyones on the hunt for a cheap good LP try these first.

I own a couple of Gibson LP's and a Japanese made Burny custom, and I was still impressed by it. On a side note I also played a white Gibson LP junior and it played and felt horrible, to fat a neck and would it hell go and stay in tune, but each to there own. maybes the Junior was just a bad one.

Selling my Burny RLC-60 Black Beauty

Hello from Germany!

I'm finally selling my Burny RLC-60.
I can't find the time to play this beauty.

The guitar is near mint condition. And I really mean near mint.
There are very few scratches up the front and back and only a small dink in the back. Otherwise the guitar is clean. I guess you can see it in the pics.
It is a fully original no parts are exchanged.
It has the L8000 pickups (with green ceramic caps) which give you a nice warm and full sound.
It also has fret edge binding. Frets are in excellent condition.
The neck is straight and is made of very dark rosewood.
According to the Nils-Bro Muller page it must be from 82 to around 87. Hard to tell but the truss rod, the diamond inlay and the L8000 let me come up with this conclusion.
Also with the guitar comes a truss rod cover with "Les Paul Custom" written in it. You can exchange it for the original one if you like.
I also give my epiphone hard case with the guitar. I know it's epiphone but next to the big G hard case it's the best you can get.
Just take a look at the video (No, that's not me!):
YouTube - Epiphone Les Paul Guitar Case ReviewI don't want to make any money. I got the guitar from Japan and had to pay the shipping and customs.
I also had the guitar set up by a luthier and of course you get the hard case with the guitar.

So now to the price: I sell everything for 750.- Euro!!! (+ shipping)

I think that's really a fair price for a guitar in this excellent condition. You will also get my payment receipt so that you can see that I don't want to make any money out of it.

If you are interested leave me a note!!!

I don't want to make any money.

Thank you

string heights...unable to get a setup

I have recently bought an 80's LP and have tried to set it up.
I cannot get the heights of the G & B strings right which is strange. When I raise the bridge (high E string side) to get the High E string at a good height the B & G strings feel like they are too low and bending the E string causes my fingers to go over the B creating unwanted sound. I never had this problem on other guitars and can't seem to get to get it right on this one.
The neck is straight and the tailpiece is screwed all the way down to the body of the guitar (I have not wrapped the strings over the tailpiece - they are strung as normal).
Anyone else have this experience? Could the bridge or saddles for the B & G have collapsed slightly?
Thanks.

Epi Les Paul Custom for Tokai SG?

So I found what I think looks like a fairly good deal on a Tokai MIK SG.

The owner's selling it for $400, it includes upgraded pots and nut.

He's not sure what model it is exactly, but he's pretty sure it's a MIK.

Here's a picture of it.
http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/7943/img00079qa.jpg

---Quote---
Sorry, I don't know the specific model. It is either a 2005 or 2006.

It has a red finish, bound neck and pearl inlays and is all stock except for the volume and tone pots which I upgraded. The body is asian mahogony (nato). It is fairly light and a little neck heavy as all SG's tend to be. It's in good condition with only one small ding on the body that is barely noticeable. It has had a professional setup with a new nut installed as well.
---End Quote---
The serial number is 050568.

So in order to pay for this, I'm planning on selling my Epi Les Paul Custom for $400, to someone else, so it pretty much comes at a straight trade for the SG. My question is, will this be worth it? Am I losing out in the deal or what's happening here? I paid $500 for my Les Paul, so I'm not losing that much money on it per se.

anyone own an agile al-2900?

If you do, do you think the chambered (semi-hollow) body changes the tone? in a good or bad way?

I like the idea of an 8 lb guitar vs the 10 lbs of the al-3100. But I like the tones on the heavier les pauls. Wondering if it sounds really different or if its just a subtle difference.

Also, is it better to get an air chambered les paul or a lighter solid one? (For instance, I believe the epi studio is 7.5 or 8 lbs, about the same weight as the al-2900, but its solid body. Its a bit thinner I beleive (1.5 inches as opposed to the 2 inch thickness of the body on the regular les pauls). Wonder which is a better strategy to get to 8 lbs -- air chambers or just a thinner body -- and still have the best possible tone.

Or for instance an xaviere xv-700 (at 7.5 lbs but solid body)

thanks!

This was my 1st Les Paul,I don't have it anymore just this polaroid. I got it in 1978 at Crazy Eddy's Record store in the Trumbull Shopping Park mall(CT). Only marking I can see is a big A on the headstock. This guitar had bindings on front and back,a bolt on neck, chome covered humbuckers and chrome hardware. I paid $99 for it new. I gave it to a friend in 1986.Anyone ever see one like it or know who might have made it? Any info would be much appreciated.
