I took some new pics of my new R8 and G0 last night. I bought the G0 locally and traded my Firebird + $$ for the R8 with Benguitar. :thumb:
(Thanks Ben)
Anyway, I figured after the fun filled thread that featured Billy G with an Epiphone, I'd make a light hearted joke out of the title.

These are two totally different animals. I kind of like the looks of the G0 better because I've always been a tobacco kind of guy, but Ben had put the Seymour Duncan pickups in the R8 and it screams One of them is a Billy Gibbons, I just don't remember which one. :thumb:
Also, I was worried that the neck would be too big, but it's actually really comfy.

String harmonics and pickup height

A couple of weeks ago I posted a question about the setup of my new R0. I got a lot of great feedback about string gauge and setup. Thanks for the help!!

I think I'm close on the setup, but when I'm playing I seem to be getting a lot of tone and/or harmonics coming off the strings that I just inadvertently touch. For example, if I bend a string up and just touch the string above (e.g. bend G up and just touch D with my finger) I get a pretty significant tone and/or harmonic out of the amp. To be clear I'm not saying I slide under the string or anything like that, I just mean touch the string.

Up until now I've played almost entirely strats. I'm pretty comfortable getting around on strats and I don't ever have this problem when playing.

So my question is... Is this something I need to adjust to because humbuckers are that much more sensitive than single coils OR is it possible that I have the pickup height a little too high and the sensitivity is greater because they're too high?

Any ideas?

Finally I have a guitar that I believe will be a keeper. I recently decided I wanted a LP and I tried out a Classic, which was returned. Then a Traditional Plus, also returned. I just got a used R7 which is in like-new condition. I won't get to get her in my hands until Tuesday though. Used is the way to go though. Returning a Trad Plus and getting a R7 for cheaper:shock: Why didn't I do that in the first place?
I can't wait until Tuesday.

Had a nick on the heel of my R9 which bothered me because it was on the bottom side of it where sweat would seep inside. I had some Maclac semigloss and followed Dan Erlenwine's stewmac instructions on drop filling laquer finishes. Worked great and can't tell it was ever damaged, looked like the new lacquer just melted the old one and it leveled off so not much sanding was needed then a quick buffing and voila....It's getting other "age spots" that I'm not bothered about but just to let other historic owners know.

This is the Murphy aged, signed and played by The "Reverend of Blues Rock" himself. You can tell a lot of Murphy hours went into this one! Now I'm not going to wash my hands for a while.

Here it is...the end on an era. This is the last Billy Gibbons "Pearly Gates" to come off the line- #51. This is the Murphy aged, signed and played by The "Reverend of Blues Rock" himself. You can tell a lot of Murphy hours went into this one! Now I'm not going to wash my hands for a while.

Enjoy

The great VOS scam

Heres one for ya

I understand that vintage gear is kool and...people say it sounds better etc, but the VOS thing is a marketing buzzword to sell more guitars because your 'conditioned' to think that your getting something better because its been made to look old.

As for a 1959 guitar being worth 300k, I dont know..................value has always been a matter of opinion but....its very subjective. Isnt value just a concept in order to exploit the masses?

, maybe a little wool and eyes thing going on here somewhere.

anyone heard of/read Jean Baudrillards simulacra and simulation......this is the hyper real?

When a 59 came out it was all shiney and new, like a gloss reissue, so why not charge more for the VOS versions? surely a shiney new guitar is a better deal. If you want it to look older its a good excuse to play more?

Have Gibson been very clever and created this idea that a new guitar that looks old is a good thing? Its very strange if you step back and think about it for a minute.

Conspiracy theory? I dont think it is, it seems closer to the truth than a theory, or does it?
