Xotic Ep-Booster... The icing on my Orange cake

After a short stint with the Barber Tone Press (if you seen my thread), I kind of learned that my Orange likes a little boost in front of it (as the Barber does a little boosting as well as its compressing duties).

And then today, I come into work to find a pair of Xotic EP-Boosters sitting on the counter and decided that I needed to try one out. Big mistake, because now I am out of cash!

A commonly known thing for Oranges is they like to be turned up really loud, and I will definitely attest to that. But, I think something that may not be so known, is that they like a little clean boosting.. My amp (Rocker 30) particularly sounds good with a little kick in the ass.

I'll elaborate as to why it works out for MY rig so well:
The things the made me like the EP-booster were not only the fact that it generally works REALLY well, but it also has a bass boost and a bright switch (which is located under the battery cover, which I like as there is less stuff to get broken on the top of the pedal).

The bass boost will allow me to get some more bottom end, not that I neccasarily need it, but if I want it... It's there. And by nature, the Orange is kind of a dark amp, with the bright switch on it evens things out quite a bit. I LOVE the clarity of this pedal with that one. No mud whatsoever.

I'll elaborate more later when I have the time. But, if anybody is looking for a great boost pedal... This is highly recommended!

I keep hearing a real parametric eq is where its at, for the begining of the chain pre distortion/od. I have also been told post stage should have one

Who makes one? I see muff has one and one from a company in Can. I m just not sure what to get. I know I want to have control of the "Q" because I just want to be able to cut and boost what I please.

Anyone?

Taming a Dyna Comp?

Yes, this question, or something similar has been posted many times. However, I'm looking for some advice.

I have an MXR DynaComp (2 knob model) that I run before volume pedal, wah, etc. in my chain. I tried it after the volume pedal initially & had serious issues with getting even tone, so I have moved it upstream so that it compresses the guitar before going into anything else. However, I still have a hard time getting the thing tamed, especially when I use the volume pedal.

Aside from recommending a different pedal (I know you Barber TonePress disciples are out there), I would like to hear other ideas about using this bad boy & best placement in the signal chain.

Pedal Power Supplies included?

When you buy a pedal does a power adapter come with it or does that need to be bought separately? If one has to be bought, will a regular electrical store stock them?

Thanks! :thumb:

PS. I was thinking about getting the Fulltone OCD (for classic rock and harder rock tones) and the Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy (to use with clean and light overdrive at church and other uses) for Christmas in case anyone was curious. Feedback about these would be much appreciated.

After playing on my Rivera knucklehead tre for a few days, its apparent that the lead channel has enough gain to feed a family of four. I had been using a boss ML-2 to push my orange 30w before with an ibanez rg, but its clear that the lester/rivera/boss combo are not working out. I want to tighten up my lows without all the fuzz and pure junk i'm getting right now.

I know you really can't go wrong with a TS, but what are some other recommendations? My friend is bringing over his electroharmonix metalmuff this weekend so i'll try that out, but i really wanna get rid of this boss .

Keeley Boss DS-1 Ultra

Some of you may remember that I have recently bought a Fabtone distortion by Danelectro. It sounds really cool, but all this "from blues to metal" talk is just pure bullshit. It's all the time balls to the wall and TBH, I'm getting tired of it.

Just two hours ago I sold my Epi EM-2 EX for cash, and now I feel damn rich for a 18yr-old guy who doesn't even have a job. I thought about replacing my Pathfinder with some small valve amp, but I' not too sure about it.

And that's when I came across the Keeley Boss DS-1 Ultra. I've read couple of reviews of this mod and it sounds tempting. Low level of noises, customizable level of gain (REALLY, not like my FabTone) and tube-like tone.
The only thing that bothers me, is that the one I am hoping to buy looks home made, basing on the schematics of Keeley's mod but yet, very true to the "original".

My questions are -
1) is this mod really THAT cool? Reviewers are so excited about it, like they've just seen Jesus do a poledance lol.
2) Can it be much worse because of being home-made?

I'll post again when the seller replies if the mod is bought or made by him.
Here's the auction
DS-1 Boss Ultra Keeley Mod (811381619) - Aukcje internetowe Allegro (http://allegro.pl/show_item.php?item=811381619&msg=Tw%C3%B3j+e-mail+zosta%C5%82+wys%C5%82any).

Thanks for your help in advance!

I just bought a Big Muff Pi a couple of days ago, and using the cheap ass guitar I have, it pretty much sounds like Sh*t. But, when I brought it to Long and McQuade and tried it on basically the same amp, I have a Marshall MG30DFX, and the one in the store was the newer version, it sounded much better. Mind you, I was playing a considerably better guitar, but I am in the market for an LP Studio which was what I was playing. So, my question is, if and when i do get a new guitar, will it sound similar to what it did in the store, through the Big Muff? I noticed that the pedal had about the same tone on any amp I tried, not including Tubes. I suppose this would be because the clean channel didn't sound much different on any of them. Or am I just completely losing it?:hmm:

Vintage Electro Harmonix Small Stone

My amp dude came around yesterday and had an old EH Small Stone phaser with him. It's pre-1978 because the face plate is silver.

What a mean little device! I plugged my strat into this thing and into my little pignose and it just went. Instantly useable sounds. In two seconds it was producing Joe Walsh style liquid swirls, and with a bit of a twiddle its doing 70s Stones noises, or old Hendrix-esque psychodelic goo.

I was just amazed at how *good* this thing sounded. As soon as I played the first chord I got this big grin. :D One knob, one switch (called 'colour'), and it doesn't seem to need more. It goes all the way up to really fast vibrato kinds of sounds, but they're pretty extreme. Useable, though. But I was just blown away with how instantly pleasant this little device was.

Hours of fun in that little thing.:thumb:

I think I shall have to keep an eye out for one...:hmm:
