Just throwing this one out there. I'm looking at getting one of the Danelectro DC '59 reissues. They come original and modified. The original has a "intonable" rosewood bridge and the modded version has a metal bridge with individually adjustable saddles. The modded version is supposed to replicate Jimmy's, however he did not put the "Leo Quan Bad Ass" bridge on until AFTER Zeppelin. So, my question is should I get the rosewood period correct bridge or the newer adjustable. Initially I thought that I'd get the newer one but now I'm thinking that to get the vintage tone I might NEED the rosewood bridge. Also is there any drawbacks to that kind of bridge? Is it a pain in the ass to keep it set up? Seems like individual adjustment would be better but then I'm going for the authentic sound. Holes for bridge and stoptail I made according to span of shipped hardware. After all is done, I discovered some of issues:
- so called gold "Grover Rotomatic" with kidney knobs are just cheap imitation as they aren't able to keep in tune guitar after some violent solo
- bridge make buzz on B and G strings and nothing can't fix it!
I decided to replace machine heads with same model, or even locking version, as I thought to put inside EMG 81x/85 and tune to drop D. Is it Ok idea or to buy Gibson modern machine heads with tulip knobs? What is your experiences with dropped tuning and mentioned machine heads? Some recommendations? How to recognize genuine Grovers from imitations?
The biggest problem is different span of my bridge and genuine ABR-1 & Nashville! Don't know how to make conversion to some of them and in same moment to avoid damaging of body surface (shiny black)? Is there some quality bridge manufacturer that could match my needs or some kind of conversion part?
