Hi,

My brand new guitar has white stuffing in the rosewood fretboard grains. Do you guys have any ideas what those are? Are those white stuffing just dirts reside in the grains? They filled up most of the grains on the fretboard.

I heard ppl using steel wool to clean those things out. would it damage the wood? I have tried to scrape them out, but that is a ridiculous amount of work

can anyone tell me the difference between Gibson models

I was wondering if anyone can tell me the difference in the way these Gibson guitars are constructed etc
The models I want to know the difference between is the following-

1957 Les Paul Goldtop V.O.S

and

Les Paul Traditional (in goldtop colour)

As far as I can work out these are the same guitars (made from same materials and specs etc) apart from the Goldtop V.O.S has the vintage electronics (pickups and bumblebees etc), tophat knobs, amber coloured pickup selector switch and the trust rod cover is blank. Am I being really stupid and missing something major between the two? Or is this just a great ploy by Gibson to make us spend more money on the V.O.S?

Any help would be great in spotting any differences
Just thinking it seems silly to spend the extra $1500 on the V.O.S when the Les Paul Traditional is built to the same specs and you can get it in Goldtop colour!!!!

Some advice on lowering the action on my Traditional please?

Hi guys,

I want to lower the action a little on my Les Paul Traditional. I is totally as it came new from Gibson at the moment and although it isn't terrible, I do think it could go a little lower (it is quite a bit higher than my USA Strat).

I just wondered if anyone could advise me on the best way to go about this (I've only really tinkered with my Strat before and so this looks quite different to do).

How low do you think I could reasonably go without having to go as far as adjusting the truss rod? The neck looks pretty nice and flat anyway!

Thanks in advance for any help

57 RI Les Paul Custom vs CS Les Paul Custom

Gentlemen,

I need some help getting off dead center and pulling the trigger on one or the other. First let me say I am 58 years old and I don't play any metal except when I've had way too many beers :-). I play mostly classic style rock, rhythm & blues, blues.....

I currently have 3 RI Les Pauls, a 56, 58 & 59, *so I need a 57 in black*. I know I would be happy with a 57 RI, but I have the rare opportunity to trade even-Steven for a modern Custom Shop Les Paul Custom, you know, the one with modern appointments, hotter pups, slimmer neck, Nashville bridge and speed knobs, white binding. Most of the differences seem cosmetic, the hotter pups may actually be interesting especially since I have the general humbucker territory pretty well covered. Not sure about liking the Nashville bridge though, it doesn't look right? Is it "better" than the ABR?

Considering I am old and decrepit, I will probably only keep this guitar for 10 to 15 years then sell it. If I were looking only at resale value and the emerging youth of today wanting, what, a more modern or a more vintage guitar in 15 years? In other words, what would likely be more marketable in 15 years, the Heritage style or the modern style?

Any one care to offer a few pearls of wisdom?

Much appreciation!!

At the 27th “Osnabrücker Baumpflegetagen” (one of Germany’s most important annual conferences on all aspects of forest husbandry), Empa researcher Francis Schwarze’s "biotech violin" dared to go head to head in a blind test against a stradivarius – and won!
