Man, Warren Haynes knows how to play a little bit of guitar as well lol. ;)
That man is awesome. he started out with that weird looking 12string lp. Donīt know what the song was called but it was damn cool, slide and some tremolo effect. Good sound as well. But I have to admit I did started to wear earplugs after a while. My hearing already is bad. So that took a little away from the sound. The drums were the most irritating factor of course, lol. I did leave during the second encore, a Elmore James type blues thing, the first encore was soulshine. Was really getting late. had a long drive home and had to get up really early. I blame the drummer again cause he just had to play a damn 15min drumsolo. They took a 20 min halftime break as well so it got later then I expected. Good show. I hope some vids of it show up on youtube later in the day.

Oh yeah, Warren is the master of the guitar face. :thumb:

I have just bought this DVD only last week and it hasn't been out of my DVD player since. What an amazing concert, what a player. Fantastic tone. His feel and phrasing is just spot on, so instinctive. The standouts for me are Sloe Gin, Happier Times, The Great Flood, Story of a Quarryman and Just Got Paid, which segues into the ending of Dazed and Confused.

He plays a range of guitars, mainly Gibsons, all pretty recent models, including 2 of his signature line, the oldest being a 99 Korina Flying V. Guest appearance by Eric Clapton on Further On Up The Road. It's a 2 DVD set, he does a brief intro explaining his love of guitar and the blues, and his genuine boyish enthusiasm is genuine and obvious. At the end of the 2nd DVD there is a 20 min segement where he talks through some of the songs performed and the impetus of those songs. A booklet is included which amongst other stuff lists his gear used in the concert. All in all a great package.

Has anyone else seen the DVD and what did you think of it?

What is it about 23 year old girls this year?

First there was Orianthi making waves with her "This Is It" performance and the much lauded Grammy performance where she apparently outshone Carrie Underwood, then releasing her first US alsum "Believe". But that one was more pop/rock, and I thought the efforts to show off her chops weren't too great, though there were some good moments on that album.

Then now I stumble across Joanne Shaw Taylor. I got her release this year "White Sugar", and honestly? It's great! Killer Tele Tones, soulful voice (Orianthi still sounds like a Britney Spears who can actually sing) and actually pretty good songwriting.

Image: http://review-mag.com/archive/680-689/683/joshawtaylor4-1.jpg

She's very SRV-like in this album, with some hints of Albert Collins and some Freddie King. I'm hearing a lot of old blues from her, but what's really cool is she manages to stay a bit away from some of the old cliche licks most of the time. The solo playing I find is a bit not so inspiring (I mean, it's good, but it's not WOW), but her rhythm work is killer. I can't remember the last time I've heard a Tele sound so nice and upfront. I wish there were more recordings like this.

Her voice is like a mix between Richie Kotzen and Eric Martin. A bit more rough and breathy than Bonnie Raitt's. She's a bit less fiery than SRV, but more soul.

Oddly, I also find her stuff a bit John Mayer-esque. But the good JM rather than the bad JM. More like his "Try" Album rather than "Continuum".

Definately worth checking out!

The Hungate family and my family have been great friends for as far back as I can remember. David's dad and my grandfather
(Toley mentioned in the article) were very close their entire lives.

We went to see TSO this past weekend and they were just as good as the 5 or 6 times I've seen them before. The light show they put on is worth going to see as much as hearing them play. They add more lights every year and I'm always amazed that they can actually add more than the year before. If you haven't seen them, go see them! You won't be disappointed.

Here are some pics I took at the show.

All the other members went and had babies and stopped playing for crying out loud. We never had delusions that we'd MAKE IT, but we had hella fun playing together.

Hard rock....grungy sound...typically draw comparisons in overall sound to AIC, Soundgarden (in the vocals)...I don't claim that we sound like em, but thats what we hear.

Check out our 3 tracks on our MySpace and i would love to hear constructive feedback. If we suck, tell us why! :)

Okay guys, I'm coming over here from the Gibson forums as a suggestion that The Cellar here is a good place to spread your music with.

My band is called "Blow It Up" We've got 5 songs done and recorded and are working on more for a full length album. In the mean time, I have them posted up on Myspace. The address is...

Blow It Up on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads (http://www.myspace.com/blowituprocks)

Explicit content warning though, I am in charge of the guitars, not the vocals. So if your kids are around you might want to muffle their ears.

My inspiration for doing this style of guitars is blues syncopation with 80's guitar tone but really really fast. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!
