Hi,

My brand new guitar has white stuffing in the rosewood fretboard grains. Do you guys have any ideas what those are? Are those white stuffing just dirts reside in the grains? They filled up most of the grains on the fretboard.

I heard ppl using steel wool to clean those things out. would it damage the wood? I have tried to scrape them out, but that is a ridiculous amount of work

I was inspired by the Stock vs. 50's Wiring - Soundclips (http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/tonefreaks/66581-stock-vs-50s-wiring-soundclips.html#post1283527) from will_c and I recorded a similar set of clips with all same settings. The only change was the cap from the side lug to the middle lug on the volume control.

The recording was done using the Emulated XLR out of my Marshall JVM directly in the PC soundcard and my 2008 '57 LP Custom in faded cherry.

I don't really hear any difference, do you???

All files are recorded with modern wiring first and 50's wiring after.

They are Texas Instruments 2N1304 transistors, all of them have red bottoms except for one with a green bottom, these are in great condition, except that they have really short leads. I was thinking about sticking these on Craigslist or the Bay, but I dont know how much to sell them for! Any advice?

Correct setup adjustments for Les Paul Studio

Folks, Hi I need some helpful advice on adjusting the action and intonation on my NEW LP Studio!

I have made some minor adustments as recommended in the Gibson owners manual (that came with the guitar) for the intonation on the 6th and 3rd strings. The 6th is now OK for intonation, but needs the action raised due to buzzing around the 1st - 3rd frets (action too light).

I do use a digital tuner but the 3rd string is still sometimes difficult to tune accurately. It also goes out of tune relatively quickly, which is really frustrating at times. I read on this site that if you put a bit of graphite or a small piece of soap on the nut it helps the string slide and improves the tuning characteristics.

Also, if I adjust the bridge height for the action on the 6th string, will I need to readjust all the way accross, or can I make the required adjustment for the 6th string only.

Thanks,

Bass capacitor wiring question

I have a G&L bass from 1980 that sounds absolutely great! The thing it has a 3 position mini switch that controls the only pickup that the bass guitar has got; first position is humbucker mode, second is single coil mode and the third option is single coil with a bass boost.

I've installed a real bee ( 0.1 uF ) instead of the original plastic capacitor on the switch.. but I wonder. Is the capacitor working when the pickup sounds in single coil mode or when in siogle coil with boosted lows??

I guess i could open it and check with my multimeter but I'm feeling lazy. What do you think???

ok, probably a really stupid question, but i'll ask it anyway.

Yesterday i finally had the time to work on the wiring of my V.
I tried this one :

Image: http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t88/happy_go_lucky_goth/wiringV50s.jpg

it works great, but i found out, that the braided wire of the pickups touching the switch results in _no signal_ at all. So i guess i should wrap some tape around the braided wire in that area. But why does this happen ? Do i short it that way ? I know nothing about electronics, just trying to wrap my head around it.

Kinda curious here. I have an R4. The stock tail isn't steel, has no magnetic attraction that I can feel....

Is it aluminum? Zinc alloy mix of xxxxx? Anyone know?

How about the Pigtail '50s repro? Anyone know? I read their website.

I guess I wonder if they are made of the same or different materials.

Weight wise w/o a really crazy accurate that measures 1/10's of ounces all I can say is they both feel crazy freakin' light.

I have a 1994 or so Gibson "The Paul SL" carved top all mahogany with the typical 490R/ 498T pickups. I need to rewire and haven't settled on which way to go, but I havr three caps to choose from (in hand).
1. "AllParts" Vitamin Q's .022 400V
2. Sprague Vitamin Q's .022 100V
3. Sprague (I believe) 715P Orange Drops .022 600V

I play this guitar from blues to metal, but I do like the sweet vintage "woman tone" type of sound. Which caps do you all think would make it sound the sweetest with the stuck pups?

I bought three different sets because they were cheap and I also have one of those imported Les Paul body and necks to finish and build up, and if I can ever get it done, It'll need caps too.

Gimme your opinions, guys!
