Epi Jr Vs Gibson Jr Vs kit

Hi all, I am on the verge of pushing the button on a Jr. I am really trying to understand the best vang for my buck. The options are:-

epi Jr at £99 then upgrade the pots and switch to a hot P90 total cost £210
kit build, to my spec will cost £350 and will take a while as I have an 18 month old
wait and pick up a Gibson Jr at £450

would love some opinions as I keep going back and forward on this

Re: Epi Jr Vs Gibson Jr Vs kit

The Epiphone Jr is a terrible guitar. It has a bolt on neck and is made from God knows how many pieces of wood and to top it all off sounds TERRIBLE. Do NOT buy that.

Gibson Jr is a 1 piece body, and could be a good bet, but that again would need upgrading to be to your spec, so could get pricey.

If you're confident with your skills, or with a luthier/tech's, then I'd recommend the kit.

If you are referring to the Epi Jr. with a bolt-on neck and a humbucker, I wouldn't bother. I bought one for my nephew off of Musician's Friend, it was by far the worst guitar I'd seen in some time. I ended up getting him a far superior Squier Affinity Strat instead.

Think this has already confirmed what I thought but I had to ask the question

Re: Epi Jr Vs Gibson Jr Vs kit

I'd just go for the Gibson Junior if it's an option. There are great Epis as well, but I'd tend to prefer the Gibson.

There are a lot of great deals right now, too.

Some one on here is selling JR. Kits for real cheap like 110 US. And they are supposed to be great.

His is a totally different animal. Set neck as opposed to REALLY sloppy bolt-on joint; solid wood as opposed to God knows what plywood; P-90 as opposed to a humbucker; really REALLY cheap tuners, the list goes on.

And he's invested a fair amount of money in it - PLEK treatment, Antiquity p90' Bigsby, etc.
