Grover tuners on LP Standard
First off, my deepest apologies if this has been discussed already. I did a search and couldn't find anything on it.
Anyway, my LP already had Grover tuners on it when I got it. But I don't know if they're locking or not. While it's unstrung (and waiting for Jonesy's new pots/harness), I'd like to upgrade the tuners to a locking set. Is there some way of finding out if they're locking? They only have Grover on them. |

Re: Grover tuners on LP Standard
The grovers that come in most epiphones are grover and are not locking. As for the operation of locking tuners I believe you screw something on the tuning peg.

Re: Grover tuners on LP Standard
Locking Grovers have a thumbwheel on the backside to loosen/tighten the lock. I recently purchased a set to replace stock Grovers on one of my Epi's, the new ones are much higher quality. The stock tuners all have looseness in the peg, the new lockers are all much tighter and feel more precise.

Re: Grover tuners on LP Standard
Thanks Dave!!!
I just went down to look at mine closely. Sure enough, they have NO thumbwheel. I'll go ahead and get a set of lockers. Are they even worth re-selling? |

Re: Grover tuners on LP Standard
The stock Grovers that come on Epiphones aren't as good as Grovers of the good old days but they're still pretty good and are in a different league to the crap that come on some budget guitars so i'd say they had a resale value

Re: Grover tuners on LP Standard
Stock Epi Grovers are nice tuners for the money, and are well worth reselling. They are not cheap garbage by any stretch of the imagination - even if they are not as nice as the vintage USA Grovers I've used.

Re: Grover tuners on LP Standard
i think the stock grovers on epi have 14:1 gear ratio compare to the locking grover which has 18:1 gear ratio.
btw someone mentioned " looseness in the peg", the tension on grovers tuner(kidney shape metalhead) is adjustable just tighten the screw on the peghead.
