Custom truss rod cover?

Anyone have any good DIY methods of applying custom lettering to a truss rod cover? I don't want to order one and I want to do it myself.

I already have a blank TRC. First I tried paint.. I cut the letters out of thin cardboard and painted over the holes. That turned out messy and I removed it. Next, I tried using a custom decal maker (I was going to clear coat over it), but the black background made the text nearly illegible.

Anyone have any ideas? I want my name in white, cursive letters on the TRC.

A stencil and some spray paint? liquid paper pen and a clear coat on top? A sticker (get some sticker paper from computer/printer shop and simply print ur name in white on clear sticker paper) clear coat to finish?
