Contact him as an interested buyer. Waste as much time of his as you can.

Re: craige list fail of the day lol

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $999!!!! LOL Sorry I have to laugh... Is it the blue and gold really worth that much? The guys answer to you seems to fit the price this jerk is asking. Almost seems like he got scammed and is trying to recoupe the scam by scamming a bit more..

Plus everyone knows the Michigan State or Ohio State Epi is better..(yes, I'm stirring the pot! LOL sorry, got 2 very good friends that went there)

Pete

Under similar circumstances, my reply would be the same.

I think that I would just not reply... not that I would be trying to get a price like that in the first place...

Re: craige list fail of the day lol

Why do people think it's their business to mess with people trying to sell gear? Are you seriously considering buying that guitar? He's asking almost 5 times what it's worth. If you're not going buy the guitar, then leave the guy alone.

Clearly, if what you're saying is true, then the seller doesn't really care if it sells. He's just going to wait until someone who doesn't know better buys it without making an inquiry into what it's worth. It's none of your business.

You admit that he is trying to take advantage and that's just fine? I say that it is just fine to mess with the theif.

One would be doing society a much bigger favor by picking on corporate America, or those outfits that advertise on late-night TV, selling shit that's made for $.05 each for two low, low payments of $29.99.

If I have an artist paint my R8 and put it up for sale at $15,000, that's my damned business - mine and any person who likes it enough to meet my asking price.

If I see a cheaper guitar listed for quite a long time with an abnormally high asking price, I will sometimes email them on the chance they just don't know what they have. Sometimes they are grateful for the information and others they tell me to piss off.

Thief? What did he steal?

I'm not sure about you, but when someone asks too much for something, I simply don't buy the item. The seller has every right to ask whatever he wants for that guitar. Anyone who pays the asking price is a sucker.

I can see going after someone for misrepresenting the product in the ad, but that's not happening here. I can also see going after someone for selling something known to be defective without disclosing the condition. But, we can't tell if that's happening either. This appears to be nothing more than someone trying to get more than the guitar is worth. Messing with this guy for this ad is uncalled for, in my opinion.

Re: craige list fail of the day lol

Last week someone was selling an ebony LP. I called him to email me some detailed pictures but it was a knockoff so i called him back and told him that his standard was not worth 900 but maybe 150 in the nicest way. He was a little frustrated but was not mad at me at all and even thanked me. Maybe its how you aproach it because some people just don't know.

Literally a theif, no.
I would treat him the same way that I treat telemaketers.

^I see where you're coming from. I wouldn't take the same approach, but that's ok. I hate to be argumentative, but the telemarketer is calling you. To distinguish the telemarketer from a craigslist ad, the sales process is much less invasive. The OP disovered the ad by searching craigslist over a period of time. The seller didn't buy a targeted list and start cold-calling people.

True I don't really have the energy to go out of my way. Just suggestions.

Re: craige list fail of the day lol

If that guitar was orange and blue it would be worth every penny! GO GATORS!!!!!!

On a serious note.. What I hate about Craigslist is you get a lot of jack holes that ask retail price for their guitar and claim that the MSRP is what they go for new.

Re: craige list fail of the day lol

If somebody pays what he's asking, then it's worth it to that person. It doesn't matter what the rest of us think.

I wouldn't haze him. As has been said, he's not misrepresenting it. He's just asking a price that's higher than market value for that guitar. If he eventually finds someone who wants it for that price, then so-be-it.

I'm thinking the buyer would be someone like a bar owner who runs a Michigan sports bar who is going to hang it on the wall as decoration. It won't be a serious player. The guy will buy it, write it off, hang it on his wall and it will all be good... To him it's just a wall decoration, not a guitar (that's almost all it could be anyway). And for that, it's a reasonable deal, for the most part. It's all in how you look at it.
