I'm a band, LP JR has too much Treble

Lead guitar - Marshall cab and amp head, Ibanez with EMG style pick ups.

Bass, unknown model, Spider 2 or 3 amp

Me, LP Jr. with .22 caps on both volume and tone knobs, JMF 60w amp with Tube Screamer TS9 and Metal Screamer. What can i do? Adjusting setting on distortion makes guitar sound horrible and not clean or clear. It sounds amazing if i were lead guitar however i need to match the bass more and the knobs weren't working. My Metal Screamer gives me more tone w/ out TS-9. will 0.047 caps on both knobs make a small difference? all I need is a small difference.

.022 volume .047 tone, never played went straight to this alread reading my last thread to go 0.22's all around.

I assume you've already tried using the tone knob on your guitar...and on your amp (if there is one)

If that doesn't help and you can't adjust the tone on the Metal Screamer, either find another pedal to use instead of the Metal Screamer, or get an EQ pedal to put after the Metal Screamer.

Get that cap off of the volume control. It's acting as a treble bypass. BAD idea.

Re: I'm a band, LP JR has too much Treble

I just put a 0.033 cap on the treble bleed and a 0.047 on the tone, and wow what a difference! I got the sound i wanted! I have a solid state amp (JMF Spectra 122 12" 60w), so I'll try adjusting my pedals next time at practice. My tube scream is altually way more "intense" than my metal screamer. My MS is weak compared I use it for chrus' and playing with my lead. When im palm muting and need power i used my TS9 with my MS and get a huge kick out of it. Epiphone sucks at the wire man, I just stripped and re soldered both pots because everything was frayed. Everything is so clean and deep it sounds so amazing right now. Tomorrow when i can turn up my amp ill know if it was a perfect tune up. its 4am here in Las Vegas. but wow on clean omg it sounds GREAT. Was my cap combination and rewire do anything to help or is it all in my head?

usually get good results swapping to .047s when it's too bright, good call rewire can make a difference.

BTW, i lost my other 0.047 cap so i have the 0.033 on volume for now but incase anyone was wondering why i mixed and matched. What differece will I notice if i delete the treble bleed? I use the volume knob alot in practice. It helps keeping tone/distortion when I need to cut back. Will it be a greater fix when i go get that 0.047 for the V pot?

Really? Sweet! Yeah, on my volume pot everything was fraying and looking ugly, re did the whole damn thing, i rewire my tone pot the first time i installed a cap because i melted the blue wire together with the inner white. No idea what I did wrong and figured it out myself. I felt proud thought id share that again. I made a thread about it lol. Good thing my dad is an electrician and taught me basics. Now i just gotta learn how to upgrade a solid state amp!

But yes its so much cleaner and its night and day with the re-wire job. Thanks for clarifying!

EDIT: Actually, sorry guys, I brought home 0.064 from work. not the 0.047! So what should I do about the Volume pot?

Isn't that called "buying a tube amp???' J/K .... I don't even know - are ss amps "upgradable" the way tube amps can be modded? Could be, I've just never paid attention...

Re: I'm a band, LP JR has too much Treble

i had a similar issue with a Melody Maker that has a rails pup...way too 'trebly' when there was a call for 'dark'. i went with a BOSS eq pedal before my other pedals, adjusted the tone clean to where i like it, then stomped the distortion and it made all the difference i needed
