New EPI Ordered Today

Hi All,

After checking this forum for a while I have ordered a new Epiphone Les Paul Standard (plus top in cherry sunburst.)

It's arriving tomorrow and I have my guitar tech lined up to give it an inspection on Wednesday and a setup.

Just thought I'd create a post here so I can add some pics of it new out of the box, and thought it may be interesting to see what issues (if any) it has!

Will update this thread tomorrow when it arrives

Adam

Re: New EPI Ordered Today

OK, so she turned up today!

Overall I'm quite impressed. It certainly doesn't feel like a top end guitar, but for £380 I didn't expect it to. It feels easy to play, looks nice and I'm pleasantly suprised by the pickups on an initial play. I think I may prefer the style and feel of this to my Jackson SL3

The strings are as expected, complete s**t from the factory. After playing it a few minutes, my fingers were filthy - Just look at the picture, that's nasty! They also feel poor as well as dirty - time to get my favourite ernie balls on there!

The action is a little high, although it appears higher in the pictures to how it feels. There isn't any noticeable buzz yet, but I am taking it to my regular tech tomorrow for an evaluation, and then a full setup. If he spots any major issues I will send it back for another. I'm expecting it to need some work though, afterall, it is an Epi!

Any comments regarding what factory its from etc would be cool.

Pics Below:

I tried my best with the pics, but Im not used to posting pics on forums so go easy on me!

Hi Adam,

and welcome here.

HNGD to you, Nice Paula.

Your guitar was made 09=year, 09=month, 15=factorycode for QuingDao,China

The color on your fingers seems to be from the (colored) fretboard.

Peter

Thanks for the welcome! I'm looking to do some upgrades and stuff so I guess i will be fairly regular on here.

You think that is from the fretboard? Is this a known issue with these guitars?

Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Hey Adam, Congratulations on your new baby, she looks beautiful. I have a doubt, can you tell me exactly what was inside the box (accessories, manuals, etc)?

Unboxing a new guitar produces a wonderful feeling, makes me want to buy one myself.

congrats again!

Leo.

Re: New EPI Ordered Today

Hey man,

I got an EPI LP and that "dirtyness" went away after a couple hours of play. I think it was the fretboard, or the strings, or both. Also sometimes when I play extensively I can see that some of the metal(?) wears off onto my fingers from the strings.

Just my experience. Seems normal to me though, nothing to worry about. I haven't gotten mine setup (it does buzz a little) but its awesome feeling otherwise. After a set up and some new strings, also you should get a new nut while you're doing all that, it should feel remarkably similar to a Gibson LP.

Have fun!

It came with an amp lead, a poster of another epiphone guitar with the full range on the back, a "owners manual" featuring the history of epiphone and that was it I think. The box was labelled "Epiphone - performance is our passion"

Re: New EPI Ordered Today

Nice guitar! After 20+ hours of playing, a change of strings, and a few times wiping the neck down I am still getting some discoloration of my fingers. Never had that with any other guitar other my HB LP. At least it is much less than when new.
