Question New LP Plus Top - setup advice

Hi everyone. I got my first LP this weekend, a transparent blue standard plus top. I am extremely happy with it, except for setting it up. I usually play around with setting up my own guitars, as I love to tinker, but this one has some fret buzz that just doesn't go away without the action being set terribly high.

I've checked it out pretty extensively, and the buzzing is always just on the A string, around the 5th - 7th fret area. The string is buzzing against the next fret down. I feel like some fretwork may be needed, but I'm not a professional, and I've only ever tinkered with my Strat and Variax before. Any advice here?

If I should take it to a professional, how do I find one? I live in College Park, MD, if anyone knows somebody in that area or the DC area.

I'd appreciate any advice you can offer, I really don't want to set the action high just for buzzing at one or two frets on one string... it seems kinda silly to sacrifice playability everywhere else on the guitar.

Thanks!

Re: New LP Plus Top - setup advice

I'd find your nearest Gibson dealer, and take it to them to look at - might be covered under the warranty (if its new, and you're the first owner).

Welcome to the forum!

I always suggest finding a good dealer and buying guitars through them, building a rapport, etc. You'll have much better luck getting issues resolved!

I had the same issue with my Blue +top EPI standard. I took it to my guitar teacher who fixed all the buzzing and lowered strings, raised pickups etc..
