What is the Rhythm and Tremble switch for?

Lol, sorry, noobie question, first of all, i don't even know what Rhythm and Tremble mean, well i know the dictionary definition of Rhythm, but i just can't seem to get the difference between the 2. Is there a difference of sound between them, or something else???? Well, i have a horrible little amp soooooooo, i can't figure it out by my-self, lol. Thanks in advance.

The Rhythm switch chooses the neck pickup, and the treble selects the bridge pickup. The middle selects both of the pickups at once. I hope that helps...The rhythm pickup is usually deeper, the bridge is more crisp and brighter.

Pretty much what everyone says. Rhythm is that deep soloing sound. While treble is a crisper sound, probably not used for solos because it will really hurt your ears past the 12th fret on the high e.

Actually a lot of solos are done with the bridge pickup. Sometimes the pickup selector is even entitled Lead.

I wouldnt agree with that it depends on the application and how much high end you have on your amp. Way too many people have a way too scooped sound on their amps so that will happen but I think The bridge on the right settings is perfect for soloing

Maybe Slash uses the neck pup on solos, but not everyone. Depends on the player!

I think think the OP is referring to what exactly "Rhythm" and "Treble" means in general.

The Rythym (neck) pickup is wound with less wire so it produces a much lower/more mellow sound, and is usually used to accentuate chords, while the Treble (bridge) pickup is wound hotter (more wire = higher output), and is usually used for soloing due to it's clear/defined sound. When you put them together, you get the best of both worlds. Hope this helps.

Even if the pickups were exactly the same, they'd sound different just due to their positions. Try it even when not plugged into an amp: strum over the bridge pickup then the neck pickup. It should sound "crisper" for the bridge, "mellower" for the neck.

Just think of it as a pickup selector switch. I actually removed my rhythm/tremble ring, so I just have the switch with no words.

Actually? That statement is both right...and wrong.

It's simple physics:

The string tention is higher at the bridge, thus producing a higher frequency, just as ther's lower string tention over the bridge pickup (closest to the center of the overall string length) produces lower frequencies, which would be true even if there were no pickups. This is WHY the pickups are wired/wound the way they are (to enhance the high/low frequencies of the vibrating strings), so even if the pickups were the same (Rhythm/Rhythm, Treble/Treble), yes, there would be a difference, but not to the effect of the standard Rhythm/Treble configuration.
