String Change

Hi All
Recently bought an MIK LP Std 1996. Its got tens on at the moment. Bought some 11s, will it need truss rod adjusting if I fit 11s? How long is it safe to leave neck without strings on?
Many Thanks

Re: String Change

It won't hurt your neck to have the strings off. Your bridge and TOM may fall off though...

Re: String Change

I think you'll be fine going from 10's to 11's. Maybe a little higher and you could adjust it a little bit if you feel the need.

Re: String Change

You'll know to adjust it if it starts buzzing, incase you were unsure.

Re: String Change

Yup, slap them on and see what it feels like. A TR adjustment MAY be needed, but not always. Look up online how to do it. I learned on my first guitar how to do it... sold it and now do all my own set ups.

If you are unsure about it, buy yourself a cheap $100 beater and mess with that. Better than paying $50 every time you want to do it. I set up my cheap guitar so well, it was a dream to play... proving that cheap guitars with a little work can be made into some sweet beasts!
