Hey guys im new to this forum and in dire need of some sound advice...
I'm thinking about changing the stock pickups on my epiphone lp custom... i like the sound as it is--round and meaty--BUT i think they're still a little weak and i know that i can get alot MORE out of this guitar, given the right upgrades. i still want to preserve that "les paul" tone so im not really keen into installing pickups that would drastically alter the guitar's voice (so i think emgs or other metal monsters are out of the question hehe); im just looking for a simple, definitive, gibson-like upgrade... hehe. should i just go with the gibson 57s? or are the seymour duncan 59s a more versatile choice? (are they even comparable? hehehe) what other pickups are out there that you think i should consider? ![]() thanks for your time

Re: New Pickups on an Epiphone Les Paul Custom?
Gibson burstbuckers (can't remember the name) are like what the Gibson models use so I guess it'd be a similar tone but better.

Re: New Pickups on an Epiphone Les Paul Custom?
There are a number of great pickups you can choose from, almost too many! If you want to stay with a Gibson product there are two that come to mind right away that I really like. The 490r/498t combo is one, it comes stock on a number of Gibson LP models, the Custom, Supreme, Studio, (also the SG Standard) to name a few. Another pickup Ilike is the 57 and the 57 Classic. More of a vintage sounding pickup than the 490r/498t. The 490r/498t are a bit more of a modern sounding pickup. Either of these Gibson pickups would be a great choice imo, and give your Epi substantial improvement in tone. A third choice would be the Burstbucker Pro pickups, another pickup that tries to capture that vintage paf tone. It falls a little short imo, but still a great sounding pup worthy of consideration. All of these pickups will make your Epi a better LP. Good luck.
