G400 Goth is listed at 299.00 from Musician's Friend..

Buy Epiphone Goth G-400 Electric Guitar | Solid Body Electric Guitars | Musician's Friend

I think as far as budget guitars you're probably better off with the SG model because of basic construction issues...in theory...

TBH I'd love to hear a head to head comparison between the 2.....

Re: Epiphone SG G-400 VS Epiphone Les Paul Goth

Tough call. I had a LP Goth. Loved it. The SG might be quite nice as well.

Just a curve ball - but I picked up a Gibson Faded SG new for $600 - I realize that it is twice as much money, but the bargain is huge if you can spare the extra $$.

Did you get rid of your Goth?

I don't have any experience with the Epi Goth LP, but I can say I had to do a little work to get my G-400 to play the way I wanted. Not sure I'll ever buy another.

And I'll second the Faded SG endorsement, mine is currently enjoying most of the play time.

Mine is currently with Roman.

I sold the Goth and the Elitist Standard to fund that '65 Mustang.

Oh, that's right, I forgot about that. Yeah, it was worth it for the Mustang, IMHO!!

Do you want a LP or a SG - that is your answer.

Re: Epiphone SG G-400 VS Epiphone Les Paul Goth

see, thats the thing! i cant decide. all those youtube vids were pieces of crap cuz you cant tell the difference in sound. on the goth, there are no inlays, so im gonna get stuck trying to find the frets. on the SG, it "supposedly has brighter and cheaper" sound than the lp, but it weighs less.
You guys have experience with both guitars, tell me the pros and cons
=] thx

Re: Epiphone SG G-400 VS Epiphone Les Paul Goth

They will sound practically the same.

Which style of guitar do you prefer to play - a Les Paul or a SG?

If you're not sure - head on down to the shop and check them out.

The strap button placement on the SG is a little strange. The upper fret access is great, though. The SG is a bit neck heavy. 3 way switch location is different. SG is quite a bit lighter. Both are great, though.

Im with you dice. I've been wanting an SG for a bit now and I have my Epi LP for sale. If I ever sell it the money will go into a coffe can for either an Epi Sherry II (the only epi I'll ever buy again) or a Gibson SG. Eventually i will have both.

IMO the Gibson SG's are really a great deal right now. You can get them for less than an Epi custom which is just crazy to me.

Re: Epiphone SG G-400 VS Epiphone Les Paul Goth

The Faded SG is $700 - the LP Junior (faded) is almost $900. Why? The Special has a wrap bridge, not a bridge and tailpiece, it has 1/2 as many pots, 1/2 as many pickups, downgraded tuners, and is a slab body with no contouring (SG has more contours than a LP Junior). The Faded Specials are just Gibson's "Deal" right now - get 'em while they last at that price!! IIRC, the Faded SG's were $800-900 last year.

Lespauls are overrated

Anyways, SG's are better, cheaper, lighter, have better tone, better access, and more badass.

It does have a 12 marker.

And, if you look at the front of your fretboard when you play rather than the side markers, you're a douche.

Re: Epiphone SG G-400 VS Epiphone Les Paul Goth

Check out the badass inlays on my Rist:

And, SG's FEEL much different - they sound pretty much the same, though. We're talking about Chinese made Epis here - same crappy wood, different shape.

Re: Epiphone SG G-400 VS Epiphone Les Paul Goth

You have to weigh the pros and cons of both...it's a toss up...
-LP's have lots of sustain and a beefier construction
-G400's as with all SG's have good access to higher frets and a lot lighter

I have both a LP custom and a G400, I've barely played the SG since I got the LP but that's just me. Plus G400's have that ol' heavy ass neck..it's like a guillotine when you let go of it! It's really up to what feels and sounds the best to you and if inlays are a problem just get some installed.

Re: Epiphone SG G-400 VS Epiphone Les Paul Goth

I played a LP goth at the music store, I actually liked it more than I thought I would. The black satin finish was realy cool. It made the guitar feel like I was holding an M-16, Im used to the fret board with no inlays. I had a takamine for 10 years like that.

Only two ways you can see the fretboard while playing...sit down and play like Jeff healy did.....or......bend over while standing up and playing....either way I would like to see a video of it.

People have already try to prove this to ya.Epiphone Les Paul Goth

I never realy thought I would hear a statement like that from you sin. I can hear a definate sound difrence in my LP vs my SG. They both sound great but the LP has a deeper tone due to the body and weight. I prefer my LP sound over the SG. I would never give up my SG though If I were in a band and was doing alot of leads I would probably use my SG for the brighter tone, depending on the song of course. My LP is my main guitar though and dont think they are overrated at all they live up to every standard as far as I can tell.
