Torn between two guitars-antique ivory or ivory white?

Finally gonna get a "normal" looking Les Paul, and I'm really liking the Custom in white. The antique ivory looks very cool, but so does the alpine white in the Custom line. Are these the same guitars with just different finishes? I would prefer the nickel hardware, which i think you can get with the classic white. I'm afraid that the gold, even though it looks great, will flake off over time. Any one have these guitars?
Thanks.

Re: Torn between two guitars-antique ivory or ivory white?

Are we talking about Epiphones? Hmmm...guess my question is too stupid...sorry...hehe

I think both guitars look amazing...I'd probably choose the nickel hardware, because since they're chinese I couldn't put my hands on fire for it... (hope u understand that expresion, in spanish it works perfectly hehe)...

In that line of white LPs my favourite is the Gibson LP Studio Alpine White w/Golden harware....is almost perfect!!! Fresh...and powerful...so if there's a similar Epi on the catalog I may be tempted to choose it...

Dont know buddy...your guitar, your choice, your image, I only can give my opinion...

Antique Ivory...

No better pics of it, but they'll do...

That's a nice guitar, and the one winning out so far. I really like that "older" llook. I'm thinking some gold tophat knobs would look better than the black speed knobs it comes with though. Will they fit on there?

So far the knobs I've gotten for my standard fits nicely... maybe if unsure, just get one of the knobs out and go knob shopping

Does your Custom have the stock pups in it? How do they sound? I really don't want to mod my Custom, except maybe the knob. Does it hold tune well?

The gold won't "chip," but it will wear away - particularly on the bridge if you're a palm muter. Same with Gibsons, though - its not an Epi quality issue.

Both of my Customs are Alpine White - you can see that the older one has changed considerably - and looks like the antique. I like the "naturally" aged LP - but if you don't want to wait for it - the antique is a great choice!

Go for the bright "new" Ivory.

The aged antique stuff always has mismatched bindings, pickguards, truss rod covers etc, that are different shades of cream.

Dang dice, thanks for confusing me after my mind was made up. That is something to think about though. How long did it take for your guitar to start getting the "aged" look?
Arch, that kind of worries me too. I'm a fan of things matching up color-wise. Oh well, may come down to which one is in stock when I finally order it.
Thanks all for your advice!!!!

Re: Torn between two guitars-antique ivory or ivory white?

The left is my Epi Custom made in '03 - I also bought it in '03. Aged like that in a year or two. The Elitist was made in '04 but I bought it new in '07. Hasn't changed in 8 months. I don't have a great answer on that, unfortunately...

Re: Torn between two guitars-antique ivory or ivory white?

Looks like I'll get the one in stock when it's time to order. It doesn't really matter to me, I like them both equally. I didn't mean to rhyme that, honestly...
Doh!!

I'd say I would have a hard time choosing also--however, the aged LP just might have that special feel.

If I had to pick 'one', I would go with the aged LP--sure looks purtyyy!

They hold tune superbly... No tuning issues whatsoever. Okay, maybe it goes off by ABIT after a couple of songs but nothing major.

And yes, everything in it is stock cept for I dropped in some orange caps in them, oh and not to mention a nut change. IMO the pickups works well for me for now, but I'd definitely be looking at a change to Gibby's 57' Classic/Classic Plus in time to come..

Wow! That's a really nice Antique Ivory! And as for the user who was scared about the gold wearing out, you could buy replacement pickup caps. They sell the gold ones on Guitar Center for only 22.00 U.S. I am not sure how much it is in Canada for those Canadian users over here. Hope this helps!

Re: Torn between two guitars-antique ivory or ivory white?

Its showing as being discontinued on the MF site right now... Last price was $478. I did get an email from MF saying that there was a 15% off sale this weekend if you mentioned some promotion code, which would have put it right around $400...

Diceman, I just called them to make sure. The $478 price you saw on the web was for the blem, and the non-blem still shows up as on sale for $549 I think it was, I just looked. The 803T flyer has the non-blem model on special for $399.99 and they do have some in stock. Crap, I just bought the Ebony '56 reissue with P90's from that same flyer, AND a Les Paul Standard for $1799.99! I'm out of control this week......somebody stop me please.

The guitar that feels right in your hands when you play it and sounds great to your ears is the guitar to get. I wouldn't buy a guitar for the looks, I would buy it because of how it plays. Just my 2 cents.

True true, but the Elitist is overall a better guitar than normal Epiphones..
