Is my Epiphone LP Standard real?

Dear experts,

I'm terribly sorry if I post this on the wrong place but I really don't know where to post this elsewhere. I'd like to know if my Epiphone LP Standard is real.
Thank you!

OK ill give you the list:

machine head washers are too large.
Pick guard screw is too close to the edge of the PG.
Bridge doesn't appear to have thumb wheels.
The prey fix EE on the serial number is bigger than the rest of the code.

Sorry but unless i'm wrong, that's a fake....

Re: Is my Epiphone LP Standard real?

In addition the "Les Paul" signature doesnt vary width hardly at all, and the Epiphone logo appears to be off center (could just be the photo). And I cant really tell but those knobs might not be parallel, they look a few degrees off, but again, could be camera trickery.

Re: Is my Epiphone LP Standard real?

Ok..I bought this off a seller from Ebay, he sent me a paypal money request to pay and I did, he sent me the guitar and 2 days later I got it. I have the address from where it was sent.

http://myworld.ebay.nl/justincase413/

I paid him on the 9th of June through paypal, what are my options?

Re: Is my Epiphone LP Standard real?

Yeah, definately a fake. Open up a claim with PayPal and ebay and tell them that this guy sold you a fake and that you want your money back.

Re: Is my Epiphone LP Standard real?

I did so, thank you

All of the sudden I feel very bad about my purchase
I was starting to love the guitar .. had absolutely no idea there were so many frauds out there.. Also I know this guy is selling them every 4 days (Standard Ebony and Sunburst) and loads of people bid on them.

Do that, but at the very least contact PayPal. PayPal is AMAZING for buyers and has gotten many people I know their money back for items they purchased that were misrepresented on the auction.

Yeah, it's pretty bad. There are so much fakes out there, especially on ebay.

Check out the 2 Fake Epiphone threads on top of the page. Almost 4000 posts about fake Epiphones since June last year, plus numerous threads like this, where the people didn't post the guitars in there.

I filled in the thing for w/e if I'm not happy about the product and..I don't feel all that afraid I won't get my money back, if I don't I might consider

Just wish I could contact someone about the sellers dealings, someone from Epiphone or something, I bet they'd want to have info on who is selling the fakes

Why do you guys always ask AFTER you buy these pieces of crap?
Good luck getting a refund.

Your the best Dennis

One glimmer of hope to take out of this Mark. I'm by no means an expert on spotting fakes but I know that there are legit Epi's out there where the EE is bigger than the numbers. That's not necessarily a red flag but the rest of the stuff these guys pointed out does seem to be correct. Post this in the "Fake Epi" thread and get a few more opinions just to be 100% sure before you freak out.

Its certainly seems to be hu Shifty. I just feel bad for the kid is all. Thankfully I've never bought a fake. Must be a pretty shitty feeling to know you got hosed. But at the same time you definitely need to be checking this stuff out before you buy. Especially with all the fakes floating around and everyone now a days looking to screw people over. It sucks.

Re: Is my Epiphone LP Standard real?

It's not too late for him. In most cases the seller gives a refund because he's scared. They most likely do anything to prevent beeing reported to the authorities. We recently had someone who got his money back from PayPal and they told him to destroy the fake and send them pictures to prove that it's destroyed.

Why am I getting these images in my head of rockstars destroying their guitars on stage

Thank you that you guys pay so much attention to stopping scams like this, I wish I would have come across this forum before buying the guitar I would have definently posted first before buying (I just stumbled across here by accident today and thought, what the heck let's be sure and post it anyway)

I ran it through the genuine check and double checked with the seller asking if it was genuine (like he'd tell me the truth) I should have checked more but that's just my dumb self being too excited about buying it

I'll definently post here what happens next

Re: Is my Epiphone LP Standard real?

I let paypal know I wasn't happy with the product, wrote a very long letter on how he does his business and what was wrong with the product. He did not contact me back since I let him know I wasn't happy with it, not a single email.

Tried to claim my money through paypal which was immedietly rejected because of the following reason:

As put in our useragreement the claim will only be accounted for problems concerning sending the bought item. The policy is not responsible for the quality control of the product itself. Therefor we cannot claim back your money.

So basically I'm screwed

The Epiphone company confirmed the fake will give the information that I gave them about the seller to the Legal Department. Soooo.. I don't think I'll get my money back, but I guess I deserved that

i know it's a bummer that it's fake (i have one myself) but at least you have a guitar that plays nice. now i've upgraded the pickups and caps, i wouldn't trade my fake for a real epiphone. well... maybe for a REALLY sweet honeyburst...

anyway, welcome to mlp. sorry you had bad news so early!

Re: Is my Epiphone LP Standard real?

New development: (finally got an answer back from him, maybe because I failed to claim it him scared him)

Hello there

I am sure the guitar is original, I have contacted the supplier about the problem, they told me the guitar are factory second, my have some differences from the #1 product.

if you need to return it, that's fine.

thank you

James, listen to me very carefully.

I contacted Epiphone about the guitar, they confirmed it being a fake. So please, do not bullshit me with saying the guitar is original because it is NOT. I don't know who your supplier is and I don't need to know. All I need to know is how we are going to deal with this further.

You sold me a product which is a fake, a fraud, this is punishable by law. You can't continue to sell these guitars! They're not real, and they bring great disappointment once people find out (as I did) this totally took away the fun part for me of buying my first guitar.

I don't want this guitar, I will send it back to you, clean it and wrap it well. I will not lose money (sending costs) over a fraud, so I expect you to pay for this. You were responsible for delivering the right product and you did not, considering this it is only fair you pay for the sending costs back.

I paid 238. sending it back will cost 30 pounds. I expect you to agree on 268BP.

Mark

(Really hoping to agree on this asap and get my money back)
