Starp buttons came off . WHY ?

The screw came of from the button and now its loose when I put the screw back in. Should I apply some supper glue to the screw and then screw it in or replace it with a bigger ( thicker in diametre ) screw ?

It might not sound seriouse but if its not done properly than I might drop my guitar and break the neck..Need help thanks.

Re: Starp buttons came off . WHY ?

Jam a toothpick in the hole, and put the screw back in.

Get some strap locks (Schallers) while you're at it!

Nice idea but woudnt that make the hole even bigger after I remove it ( like damage the body inside )?

No.

Your only other option is to drill a big hole in the body and jam a dowel rod in there.

All of my guitars have Schallers and toothpicks - my 60's Fenders and Gibson included.

Re: Starp buttons came off . WHY ?

Hopefully that works for you. The "harder" the toothpicks, the better. Skewers work as well. I sometimes use a little bit of wood glue on the toothpick as well.

Re: Starp buttons came off . WHY ?

I stick it in there as deep as it will go - and then I snap off the portion sticking out.

Try wooden match sticks, I recently found these to work so much better than toothpicks.

Re: Starp buttons came off . WHY ?

I dip the stick in PVA glue first. For extra security, put the screw in while the PVA is still wet.

Schallers are cool, Dunlop strap locks are best.

I use Dunlop strap locks, and put some Gorilla Grip Glue on the screw before screwing it in....I do this to all of my guitars...Those suckers are never coming off.

Have you ever seen a Dunlop come apart? There's microscopic springs and teeny little steel balls in there. Schallers don't come apart, and even if they did, the U-shaped strap-end receptacle would still keep the guitar from falling off.

I don't know but one look at those Dunlops tells me that this statement is BS!
