i put one in my frankenstrat "clone" on the bridge position. it was far more quiet that my stock pickup, sounds nice under light and heavy distortion. it's very crisp and very treble-ish, which i like because it sounds too muddy to play on the neck playing the chords that i do. it sounds amazing in drop c tunings. i play alot of harder stuff and 80's and it gives me the definition i need. i'd stray away from it if your looking for a straight up blues tone though. mine is also a bit touchy i get a bit of unwanted feed back at high gain apps but all in all not bad but i'd try something hotter if distortion is what your looking for.

I got '59s in my Cherry. I like these pickups a lot. You can cover a lot of styles with 'em. From rock to high distortion. The clean also sounds pretty nice.

I had a Duncan '59 in the bridge of my Deluxe for years, it is a fine pickup.

Definitely not a high output pickup, it won't drive an amp like your D-activators will, but with a good pedal it will handle any amount of gain you throw at it.

I've used mine for nice little jazzy cleans and high-gain metal equally well.

I've got an uncovered one in bridge position and I've found it be very good. Very versatile, sounds good clean and seems to retain quite a bit of clarity even with lots of gain. For an alnico 5 pickup it isn't as high output as comparable 5 pickups. As derockz said, I find mine a little trebly but not overly bright/harsh. Having said that, my neck pickup is an Alnico 2 pro so anything would be bright compared to that.

I have a set of 59's in one of mine, I like them great tone and growl.

Another combo you most definitely will want to check out is the JB/Jazz combination from Duncan as well.

its amazing how many metal guitarist use the JB/59 set. they are great pups, but to me nothing like a 59 PAF sound! they are more controlled and smooth, fairly tight, good for an all rounder.
