Epiphone vs. Gibson
Can we make a sticky out of this so we don't see a new thread everyday?
Epiphones rock. Period. You got the cash for a Gibson? Buy one. Great guitars. Is Gibson better? Who the hell cares!! If it matters to you that much, start saving, buy one, never worry about it again. Problem solved. Play what you got. Watch your fingers NOT the headstock. ![]() Enough of this debate already!!

Re: Epiphone vs. Gibson
I like both. I own 2 Gibsons, 2 Epiphones....I play all of 'em.
I'm going to be as honest as I can about this: 1. MIJ Epiphones and Epi Elitists, and even the Korean models are by and large better guitars than what's coming out of China these days. If you can find one of those, you'll probably have one of the better clones offered by Epiphone. (and you'll probably get a better bargain as well.) 2. If you want an Epiphone that is darned near close to the Gibson in terms of tone and for a great price....look at the archtops first, followed by the G-400's, and finally the Les Pauls. This is due to the construction techniques and materials required to make these guitars. In other words...I am of the opinion that in that order, you could probably (with a few mods) bring those models to something resembling their American counterparts. 3. I don't think the Epi LP Customs (the new ones from China) are worth what they're charging. They look pretty from a distance, but that's about the beginning and the end of it as far as I'm concerned. 4. Gibsons are made out of mahogany with maple caps....Epiphones advertise this...but a lot of people have spotted alder, agathis, or some other mystery meat wood that is sold as "commercial grade mahogany" in legalese. 5. For both brands you're paying for the availability of them (they're in every Guitar Center in the US), and for the name on the headstock. Yes, Epi is a cheaper port, but you might encounter a bit 'o cork sniffin' goin' on.... ![]() 6. Epi used to be one of the best deals in town....Now I think there are better deals out there, and if you're buying online....I am of the impression that it's not a bad thing at all to check out these other brands since we're basically talking about clone guitars at the end of the day. 7. IF you're buying a used Epi from Fleabay, find someone who can help you ensure it's not a fake. These are very commonplace, and have been since Gibson made the decision to move their manufacturing to China. (and these days you're more likely to see a fake Epi vs. a "Gibsun" out there...) 8. Even if you had a Gibson Buttwiper 5000, I'd still be of the same opinion....there's better guitars out there. So nah, as far as this argument goes....it's become kind of pointless and I think to a greater degree it is encouraged by Gibson/Epiphone/Baldwin because it eschews debates about other models entirely. 9. I think if you're trying to save money with an Epiphone, I don't really see the point of geting beyond a basic model or a studio unless you score an elitist, a Made in Japan, or a Made in Korea model. (and yes, I do reserve the right to omit archtops and hollow bodies from that debate as I believe them to be the exception to the rule.) I think used guitars are better anyway because someone else has taken the trouble of beating the fuglies out of them for you. 10. Epiphones, Gibsons, and other instruments which are of sometimes superior quality, and sometimes of inferior quality only "rock as hard" as the hand that wields them.

Re: Epiphone vs. Gibson
I think you guys are missing the point.
Great points, but my point is ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!! The debate never ends, no solution, no opinions seem to matter. Got an Epi? Play that sob, quit worrying about what others think!! Got a Gibson? Play that sob too!! Please oh please quit comparing the two!!!!!!!!

IF you were arguing "enough already", shouldn't you have put that in the title of the thread? ![]() And PS: I really don't see how you can escape comparing a clone guitar to the original. You might as well be asking the Earth itself to cease spinning.

Re: Epiphone vs. Gibson
Did you read the first post? This is a thread against the vs threads.
The title was tongue in cheek. Sorry if it was misleading. Quote:

Re: Epiphone vs. Gibson
Good point. I just got sick of seeing a new thread everyday, then the debates starts all over again. Thread after thread. Same comments time and time again.
Sticky a thread and be done!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Epiphone vs. Gibson
this is the way I look at it,,
those people who pay 3-4-5-6000$ for that kick ass gibson, leave her as a case queen or bedroom player.. you can keep it.. while I play out every weekend making $$ with my Epi's, and if it get's broke so what, I can replace it easy enough..

Re: Epiphone vs. Gibson
Trust me when I say I've seen dicemans' R8 and he defiantely plays the shit out of that thing. It looks like it should, roadworn and ready for a brawl. What really matters is it plays and sounds killer...as does his epi's.

Re: Epiphone vs. Gibson
I have no doubt, what I was referring to is the amount of nice gibby owners that do not play and use them like intended,
to me that's insulting to the guitar.. |

Re: Epiphone vs. Gibson
Thats why I dont have a Gibson. I dont need one. I want one, I could afford one (right now things are a little tight and I got the IRS up my ass ) for the most part. I chose not to buy one since I dont, gig and I dont need that kind of quality. At the end of the day thats what your paying for guys. The actual fit and finnish quality of a Gibson. Because Its certainly not because it sounds $3500 better than an Epi. Its doesnt, to me they all sound the ****ing same. So the Gibson doesnt sound $3500 better IT IS $3500 BETTER!!!! And that fella's is what you pay for.
