My Epi les paul (Quilted black cherry)

Hello all, this is my first post here and this is my first epi les paul. Its a limited edition, custom shop in quilted black cherry.

Its made in China serial begins with EE so I believe its from the Quingdao plant, and thats supposed to be a good thing? I read about korean v chinese guitars, but this one seems beautifully built.

Re: My Epi les paul (Quilted black cherry)

Thanks very much. Pity my wife wont let me touch it or my cube 30x amp until Christmas... sob.

Since I started playing guitar on a crappy Squire, I wanted a LP. Im also a decent bass player, I own a Gibson SG RI bass and an Epi Elitist EB3, but I also love 6 string.

This guitar is setup very well, I was pleasantly surprised. At first I wanted a sunburst but went for this after playing it.

Good choice. And you only have two weeks to stare at it until Christmas.

Very nice guitar just fab. The EE plant is the only plant owned and operated by Gibson the products from there are generally very good I have one as well as a Korean one and the quality is the same IMO

Re: My Epi les paul (Quilted black cherry)

Lol, thanks for the replys. Well I chose it when I played it in the store, so its pointless wrapping it up.

I like the cube also, I did play that combo in the shop so I know how it sounds and feels. Looks wise its just a different looking Lp, which I like.

And shhhh... but I have been having a few sneaky goes on it, but only trough a bass amp, but it sounds amazing. I cant wait to play her in all her glory through the cube.

Thanks for the welcome all.

I love the black cherry man and if gibson made such a finish I'd be all over it like a rash

I know ESP do a gorgeous Black Cherry version of its eclipse... maybe I should investigate further...

Beautiful guitar!!!

(now be sure to wrap the "contact points" on that guitar stand with soft flannel cloth to prevent scratches on your brand new guitar's finish!!!)

Re: My Epi les paul (Quilted black cherry)

Thank you and i'll take on board the advice about the stand too. Heres the only other one on the web I've found...

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Limited Edition in Quilted Black Cherry - Nevada Music

I got mine from a local music store though, it stood right out from all the other guitars. I'm loving the different look of it and of course when I treid it in the store it sounded just as good as it looked.

I listened to other guitar players about amps and the cube was the one that sounded the best, Im very happy with that also. Just wish Christmas would hurry up, lol.

Re: My Epi les paul (Quilted black cherry)

Lookin' GOOD Jimbo! Well done. I also got a guitar for Christmas and my wife also said not to touch it before Christmas. Then I thought of an excuse and she fell for it...."but Honey, I have to test it. What if something doesn't work right and I need to return it. I don't want to find that out on Christmas day..." So, the 5 minute test turned into a wild & furious 3 hour jam session! Once I get started.......

Enjoy it!

Re: My Epi les paul (Quilted black cherry)

The only thing about this guitar is the strings seem a bit harder to play than my squire. Maybe its beacuse they are new?

So can anyone reccomend me some decent strings? What gage should I get?

I was thinking of some Gibson brite wires 010 - 046... anygood?

Actually looking at it again, the strings seem a bit high. How easy is it to lower the strings? any tips?

First off, that's pretty! Nice guitar man. Second, you need to report your wife to the authorities, that's abuse. Telling you that you can look at it and not play it? There has to be some law against it. Third, the strings on LP's do tend to be a bit higher than strats. If it's unplayable, you can ratchet the bridge down some, but I would play with it first. You can really get some good tones when they are higher and the artificial harmonics will scream more when they are higher. Most guitar shops will do a "Setup" for you, but I would recommend playing it first. You can also do some searches on setups and there are some tips on how to tell if you are setup correctly. Something like the sound of the 12th fret on your low E should sound like something else open? I don't remember exactly.

Re: My Epi les paul (Quilted black cherry)

Tremendous thanks.

Yeah shes a evil woman, my mrs, lol.

I think I'll try and get used to the string height, its prolly cos Im used to that strats low action. It'll be ok with a bit of wear and tear im sure.

Re: My Epi les paul (Quilted black cherry)

Factory setups are usually awful, I would invest in a proper setup. The difference in my epi classic, which I thought played pretty well was night and day. What zoom zilla is sorta talking about is adusting intonation, not action, you set your action first(height of the strings, bow of the neck) , then your intonation, basicaly getting the harmonic at the 12'fret to be in tune with the same string open. Oh yeah, congrats on the guitar, se's a beaut, you dont have little critters running around the tree do you? 2 legs or four, I wouldnt trust my guitars to just sit out there like that.

Re: My Epi les paul (Quilted black cherry)

Ah I saw one of them in my local guitar shop but I have no money at all and I really want a LP Standard. I just hope they still have it there / or online whenever I do have the cash.

Don't worry about the action; the tune of matic bridge is very very easy to adjust - its what makes it better than a trem like a floyde rose, lol. If you want it lower just screw in both screws on the side of the bridge - it'll drop it down - but make sure u don't go nuts cos if u alter string height u'll have to re-do the internation - which again is alot easier on a LP.

I just sold my Epi special II (for money for a standard) but I think the internation is adjusted by screws on the back of the bridge. Its hard to explain without pictures. But that'll make the stings longer / shorter - u shud get it so on open and the 12 fret of each string is the same note. (cept for an octave oviously)

MVL.

Ok Jimbo, the day has come. Now you can play it without sneaking around lurking in the shadows! Christmas Eve is a time to open your presents and rock out!!! Fire that bad boy up and have a great time. That sure is a pretty guitar. The first few pics you cannot see the pattern in it, but the later pics really shows it off. Congrats on your new axe and amp and I hope you have a blast playing it. I sure love my Epi. I don't care what it says on the headstock, it sure plays like a dream!
