Has anyone had headstock repair on their Epi?

I picked up a brand new Epi Custom LP Silverburst that has a broken headstock for $200. A friend of mine is a master furniture builder and he assures me he can fix it. I was just wondering if anyone had any work done like this and if it was a success or not. Worst case I'll just use all the parts on another project, but I really hope this works out.

He glued it with some kind of glue that needs an activator to make it work. Then he is gonna put two cavities on either side of the truss rod with a router and epoxy two steel rods in the cavities. Airbrush and done. He makes it sound so easy. I just hope it plays ok when it's finished.

I saw a Gibson LP Studio at GC with a broken headstock. Let me know if this works for you, if it does, I might get the Gibson as well. It looked pretty jacked, but the break was above the truss rod, so only the tuners would be affected. If I put a locking nut on it, nothing would be affected! Hmmm, maybe I will do that. They didn't want a ton for it.

I'll let you know how it turns out. I have an Epi LP Classic that has signs of headstock repair and so far I haven't had any problems. So maybe it'll be alright.

It basically all depends on the break, photos would help. I had a PRS SE ovwerseas model that I....ummm... ended up venting a good deal of frustration with a few years back. Snapped the head, the only thing holding it to the nceck was the fiber card, it was a fairly splintered break, but with care I could piece it back together, so I bought a c-clamp and some elmers wood glue, and it turned out just fine. I sold it about a year later and it still gets plenty of use , just has a bit of a scar.

Hell, if elmers glue held it together than my buddy's epoxy idea should do just fine. I only have one pic of it and it's not the greatest. It broke from the nut back and the fretboard and truss rod are still in perfect shape.

Good luck with that. I bet they can put a rod or somthing into it.

Where have you been putting your hands? How did you get a stink fist?

Thanks for brightening my day ZZ. I needed that.

I'm just a big fan of TOOL and my favorite song of theirs is Stinkfist. It is about the way that we are never satisfied and don't know when enough is enough.

Carpenters glue is what I used on my three Epi's.... that was two years ago. They still play great!
