Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Standard Plus

Can someone verify that the Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Standard Plus has a carved maple top and not a flat top like some of "the Paul" guitars had.

Hey Sinmastah... how do you like yours? Is the maple top a pretty good quality picee of wood? Thanks. Over and out.

I don't have a Les Paul, but yeah they are really good quality. One peice (Technically 2 because bookmatched). No veneers on plain tops.

They have a good maple top but the figure is a veneer.

You mean the veneer is fake? Like a plastic photo that is glued on? Or a genuine wood veneer? I thought the Elitist series was supposed to be top notch.

Yup, carved top - no veneer on plain tops, veneer on plus tops. They are great guitars. Long neck tenon, bone nut, one piece neck, solid 2 piece body, USA pickups, etc.

Re: Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Standard Plus

I talked to two luthiers and they said the Elitest models were on par with the Gibson Les Paul Standard (not the studio). I don't know what to believe. I have a genuine Gibson SG that has a plastic nut that broke and I had to get that fixed. I didn't realize the genuine Gibson product had a plastic nut. By the way is $500 a good price? It's in great condition.

Flamed veneer on the plus tops - real wood veneer.

They are on par with any of the USA made Gibsons - Custom Shop aside.

What do you think about the $500 price tag?

Re: Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Standard Plus

I think that $500 for a nice one is about HALF of what it is actually worth.

People are gladly shelling out $1200 for new ones if they can find them, and $8-900 for nice used models. Even if it were beat to shit, $500 is a great deal.

Re: Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Standard Plus

Plastic and other synthetic materials are/have been used on all high-end guitars throughout the decades. It's MUCH cheaper to make than a bone nut, and the majority can't tell a difference if it's high-density hard plastic or some other specialty material, and not one of those lego blocks you see in some lower-end Epiphones. I switched the regular plastic nut on my bass to a synthetic ivory replica (=hard plastic) nut and the sound was improved noticeably. I then compared it to a hand-filed bone nut, and noticed no difference.

Good news, though - the nut on the Elitist IS made of bone!

Re: Epiphone Elitist Les Paul Standard Plus

Gibson, Epiphone...all Les Pauls are beautiful in their own way. But I had to laugh when my buddy with the 2007 Cherryburst Gibson LP refused to give me back my Elitist LP plaintop at our rehearsal last weekend. "Its so heavy!" he said. (His Gibson is chambered, Elitist are not.) He's a little frustrated with his tone, and admitted that the Elitist had it bang on!
Long Neck tenon + Bone Nut + 9.2lbs of African mahogany = priceless.
