Epi Zakk Wylde Camo-what mods would u do??
I have an Epi Zakk Wylde Camo and I was wondering if anyone out there has one they've modded? If so, what mods have you done and why? Just curious. Also, the EMG's in that aren't active are they?

No they're not active. Passive HZ's. The best mod? Sell it. I hate to be so brutal but IMO, of course a mere opinion of a meaningless stranger, but it had to be one of the worst guitars I've played.

Gibson TP-6 'Fine Tuner' Tailpiece is always a must-have on my stop-tailpiece type guitars......
It's tuning accuracy can't be denied and the quickness of it is unmeasurable.

Play it hard for enough time to figure out what it doesn't do that you need/want it to do. Then mod accordingly.

Re: Epi Zakk Wylde Camo-what mods would u do??
I happen to like the stock EMG HZ's. They're different than the actives, but not in a bad way. They're a little more articulate and more natural sounding than the actives, but the actives have a bit of more gain and slightly more thickness to it. Both great pickups. I love the neck feel of the guitar. Since its not painted in the back of the neck, I love the feel of the shaved wood. The one I had before sounded great and better than the Gibson lp Studio I had! I guess I lucked out on a good one.

put a chain as your strap. that will make it sound much better.
i agree with an earlier poster, that thing sounds aweful. I have played three and those pickups are terrible. Either get a ZW EMG set or put in some Dimarzios or something. |

Re: Epi Zakk Wylde Camo-what mods would u do??
I got one of these off ebay for $450 a couple weeks ago and although I really don't care for Zakk or his style of play, I do like the guitar. I really bought the guitar for the maple neck. Don't really care much for the paint job but you can't get that neck on any other Les Paul. The pick ups sound different from my Gibson Studio and that's what I was after. I like the thick neck. I wouldn't really change anything on it. If I want a different sound, I pick up a different guitar. Don't you buy a guitar for the sound it makes. I know there are other reasons but if I want a certain sound, I buy the guitar that makes that sound instead of buying one and modifying it. But then again, if you want to change tuners or tail, then that's cool.

You know... I would soak it in lighter fluid and put a match to it....
