I don't know for sure if the guitar was fake (because I didn't receive it), but the price says enough. And when I stressed a few times that I want a REAL epiphone and that I know how to identify a fake, he didn't hesitate to refund me.

i bought my epiphone les paul custom at a sam ash. after reading all these posts it got me wondering if mines fake but i dont think it is. if i bought it at a sam ash its real for sure right?

Did you buy the guitar new or was it used? Do you have pictures?
There shouldn't be a reason to worry either way but even the sales personnel can make mistakes and take a used fake in.

i bought it brand new.

i was wondering. i just took off the humbucker covers and was wondering whats a good distance between the pickups and the strings. does it make a difference? and does it change anything if you screw the screws on the pickups?

looks like an elitist to me, and i dont know if you guys have heard of fake elitist but i haven't. The thing that makes me suspicious is that he says that its hardly used and he is just asking $300 for it. If he still has it ill probably go take a look at it because thats a bargain price!

So when the seller, who is located in the US, sent me the tracking #, I got suspicious because it was coming from China. DingDing! I started searching and found this forum. Excellent tips!

I did all the checks, but then decided to call up Gibson. I have them the serial number and sure enough, my new Les Paul Custom had the serial number of a g400 SG.

I just got it today and within 5 mins filed me report with PayPal. Waiting for good news.

Might be the easiest step for everyone.

Since when did Gibson start putting stickers on the face of the guitars? Thats messed up! As to whether its fake or not, I dont see anything wrong.

Hello, I have just found this website and was wondering if you could offer some advice please with regards to a guitar I have won on ebay. I had a look at the photographs at the start of this thread and it looks to be ok but with the exception of a couple of things possibly (If I have read into this thread correctly I am not allowed to say what I think it is).

Here are the photos I have of it:






The serial number is apparently EE080203287 which when I check on the guitar dater project states that it was made at the Qingdao Plant Epiphone), China in February 2008 with Production Number: 03287.

The guitar is supposed to be an epiphone les paul custom plus in natural.
