I'm assuming its real because I don't think people would really waste their time making fakes of cheap guitars..

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread II

Personally, I have never even heard of a Junior being faked, but then theres a first time for everything, and I just dont want to staple a firm "real" on that one unless I know for sure. That wouldnt be right for you, or the seller.

Meh, I don't really care that much. He doesn't think it's useful because he doesn't use it I guess. Not my problem if he buys a fake gibby.

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread II

Hey guys i have a question for ya, today i went to a music store that i've never been too and checked out what they had, not a gibson dealer so i wasn't expecting much, but some thing caught my eye, it was a burst plaintop Epi with the gibson headstock. So i kinda got excited and pulled it down to see if it was a jap built or an elitist, but there wasn't a serial number, it had a sticker that looked like it had a few numbers but i couldn't really make them out, and i looked but couldn't find a 2nd stamped any where, so have you seen many fakes with the gibson headstock?? Also as a side note the poor thing needed alot of love, all the hardware was corroted and it had a few dings in it and asking was 400 bucks.

Hmmm, it sounds like a MIJ alright. The sticker means its "used" so no warrantee. They scrape the serial when they do that. It might be ok, but needs a closer look to verify it is indeed a MIJ. If it is,
and the damage isn't to bad, it might very well be worth the 400.00.

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread II

Sounds like an early (89-90) MIK as well. Make sure the open book doesn't taper at the top. Most MIKs of that time had sticker serials. They're great guitars in their own right.

Well i'm sure i can get some pics but DJ you hit it, i didn't say it when i first posted but the headstock did look tappered to me, it was the first thing i said to my girlfried when i had it in my hands, and the only other les paul that had the same headstock was a gibson and i sure wasn't touching a 1800 dollor guitar and something happen. I kinda was thrown off by that tapper and that's why i asked if they made any fakes of the open headstock.

thanks guys, next time i'm down by there i will try to sneak pics, i couldn't find my phone when i was in there it fell out my pocket in my truck.

It's a nice site to figure out where and when you Epi was made, but does not garuntee authenticity. For example, go to EE101099999

You will see your guitar was created in 2010, and they made 99,999 guitars that month...

those are certainly unique guitars. Pawn shops talk different stories when cash is involved. I would think you could get that thing out if there for 300 easy.

EDIT: I didn't notice where you said it was at a local music store. All the same, they'll bite if you're talking cash and talk about how you'd have to replace the corroded hardware and whatnot.

Can Epiphone provide information directly? Mine looks pretty authentic in it's alignment and setup. Although I have replaced a lot of parts with Gibson bits now anyway.
