Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread II

Hi Mark, I'm Mark also. It depends on how bad you want your money back? I would show the guy this thread and prove to him that it's a fake. Since you were defrauded from the beginning he owes you your money back, even though it's been a year.

worst case is - you don't get it back....

so I would try it

BTW, you need an 'official' prove from Gibson/Epi customer-Service

sent the pic and they will do it

mjdmjdum,

best to email pics to the European customer services department service.europe@gibson.com because the US bunch sometimes get it wrong (although I'm fairly certain even they couldn't balls this one up).

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread II

Thanks for the help guys,.

I put in a cursory email to Gibson yesterday and they have asked for the photos. I have also advised the original seller and await his reponse.
Fingers crossed!

I see he's no longer a registered user. Must be using another fake name now?

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread II

I believe the original owner bought the guitar in 2009 which would seem to tie in with epirockon's era so to speak. No idea if he is still trading.

Can anyone tell me if this is fake? There's no pic of the serial, but the logo just looked angled a bit too much and it looks like it's too high up on the headstock.

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread II

Why do people bother posting reversed pictures in an ad? Unbelievable. I can't tell if it's real from those pics. We really need to see the serial number to make a call on it.

The Guitar Dater web site does NOT help you determine if a guitar is real or fake. It ONLY decodes the serial number and it does not decode any sn newer than 2008.

I would rip him one if I had a user name on there... but its not worth the trouble...

OK thanks anyway, I won't be buying it but I wouldn't want to see someone else buy a fake guitar without knowing so I just wanted to post it here and see what you think.

Hi

and Welcome here

seems to be fine,

a side shot where the neck meets the headstock and
a view inside the control-cavity would be fine to get more sure

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread II

Looks genuine to me mate. Also, given its production date of December 2008, it's one of the last (hundred? thousand?) Custom Plus tops made.

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread II

Hi guys!

I recently bought a used Epiphone Standard Les Paul and after spend long time searching on internet I couldn't identify which model it exactly is... So i started to suspect that it could be a fake guitar =\.

On the back of the head is stamped the word USED. I read that it could be a used or refurbished product.. to me, it is not a problem. The problem is the authencity.

Please help me with that!
I took some pictures. If the angles are not enough I could take some more.

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread II

She's genuine.

To me, it's a Honeyburst Standard Plaintop.

Sweet as mate.

Don't worry about it being 'used' - in most cases, the original defect/problem with guitars such as these is usually so insignificant that most would struggle to have known there even was a defect/problem.

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread II

Thank you davies!!!

The color is more like a vintage sunburst or tobacco sunburst.
It's stamped only STANDARD on the front of the head.

I am almost relieved now.

This two diferent woods on the back of neck (fourth picture) is really normal?

Another thing that took my atention was the direction of the "texture" on the body. Its like vertical and not horizontal (like the epiphone lp guitars i've searched on internet).

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread II

No worries mate.

Re the colour - that's why I said started by saying 'To me...'

As for the 'verticalness' of the grain - plaintops are like that. The other guitars you've seen on the internet will have been Plus Tops. Their 'stripes' will be horizontal.

Thank you so much!

Obs.
I wrote about the color because I thought it could be a important information to identify the guitar and my camera and yellow light on my room could alter the real color too much.

No worries again mate.

On the whole, colour is not primary when determining model, although it can help sometimes.
