any 'used' stamp les paul owners?

I just noticed this on my headstock,

I bought the les paul custom heritage cherry flame top.. it came with no scratches and still had the plastic peel off covers on the pups and pickguard.. love it, but when i checked the headstock it had a sticker over the original serial and also had a embedded stamp that said "used" at first i thought it read 'U.S' but i was incorrect.

Also the last 2-4 digits were filed off. My serial begins with U06 or something. I'm assuming its the 2006 mik.

Just curious if anyone else had the same thing.

anyrate, it plays well although i want to change the pickups asap. Oh yeah one of the screws on the high e tuner is missing.

i paid 500, was it worth that much? meh..

Mine is marked "USED" as well, but I still cant find anything wrong with it. Kinda like my used car and my used house.

I assume that the responders aren't aware of what this means. It means that that guitar is a factory second not to be sold as new. It's off the books and cannot be covered under the warranty. It was sold at a discount, many of them in the famous Music123 clearance where the Standards went for $99. That was 2007. There original owner may have paid less than $500US for it, as that was close to the price brand new. Custom seconds at Musiciansfriend are around $100-$150 what the new, perfect models are going for.

Most people report that they can't even tell where the flaws are, might be a paint drip, or binding that's off by a bit, but they are all almost always in perfectly playable condition.

Re: any 'used' stamp les paul owners?

Yeah, I have several Epiphones marked "used" or "2nd".

I got 'em cheaper cause they were factory 2nds, but they're still GREAT guitars!!

shut up and enjoy some damn music. respect it even if its not to your liking cause guess what? they made it and most of you didn't. music is music and music is art and if you can't respect it then leave. i'm tierd of people ranting on music just because they don't like it. it may not be to your liking but its pasion and art.

sigh

have a good day

A guitar marked "2nd" is not the same as a guitar marked "USED".

I know this is an old post but my understanding is 2ND is some sort of small problem that effects the appearance, sometimes not even noticeable. USED stamp is that it was used as a demo possibly at a trade show and cannot be sold as new. Not sure of the truth behind this but sounds right. Also the ones marked USED may have even been hand selected so that it was a very good representation of their quality and playability. I have one USED and two 2NDs.

Re: any 'used' stamp les paul owners?

Not a big deal, I have a G-400 like that.

However, it's weird to me that you was surprised by this fact after to look behind the guitar headstock. What I mean is that the store that sold it for you should have informed that you were buying a refurbished model (tagged as "USED" or "2ND"). Also, those models should cost too much less than a regular model. I hope you have NOT paid the normal price.

Re: any 'used' stamp les paul owners?

Not on my Les Paul, but my Gretsch G5120 is stamped "USED" on the back of the headstock (maybe that's why I got it for $420), but it is perfect. I can't find one thing wrong with it, so not sure why it was stamped "USED".. Looks brand new actually.

Fine with me - I saved three hundred bucks...
