Burstbuckers in Epiphone Les Paul

Hi - I have recently had Gibson burstbuckers 1# and 2# fitted to my Epiphone goldtop to replace the standard pickups. However there is now a noticeable difference in the volume levels between the treble and rhythm pickups. On treble (bridge pickup) the voulme is a lot lower....is this right or could there be a problem?

The pots were also replaced with Gibson 500k parts.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks,
Dave

lower the bridge pup....do it while the guitar is plugged in so you can strum it and listen for the volumes to "even" out..

Or raise the neck pup. Either way it will do the same thing. If you like louder and closer like I do then you should raise, but if you like it lower (Good for keeping random noises quieter) Lower the bridge.

Cool - thanks! I will try that out in a minute. Just wondering why it's been set-up like that in the beginning...has anyone done this sort of thing on purpose before? Just wondering if I was being an idiot and it was a well known configuration. The Neck pickup is low while the the bridge pickup is high.

Re: Burstbuckers in Epiphone Les Paul

There's really not a set ..exact height for the pups...Jason Lollar has a great video on his web page explaining how to set heights...most folks just put 'em in and leave 'em...although thatsnot a good idea...

Adjusting Guitar Pickups

He uses a Strat...but the principle is the same

As for doing it on purpose.....I want mine balanced( I use both pups at the same time ,a lot),,that being said I am in the process of setting up a guitar for a friend and he want's his bridge pup more pronounced ( he never uses both @ the same time)..I guess anything is possible....

+1

Pups adjustment is always up to each individuals preference... One man's meat is another man's poison.

Re: Burstbuckers in Epiphone Les Paul

Looks like the neck pickup ring is too high...I got replacement rings which didn't seem to be an issue with the old pickups but the burstbuckers are far more sensitive.

Re: Burstbuckers in Epiphone Les Paul

Hi everyone - well got a new neck pickup ring and managed to lower Burstbucker 1. The bridge Burstbucker 2 is as high as it can go without causing problems. The levels have become noticeably better there is still a difference in the volume levels between treble and rhyme. Is this just to be expected?

Re: Burstbuckers in Epiphone Les Paul

Honestly...mine are pretty well balanced....I'll measure mine and either send or post the results and see what you think if you want to try it on yours...although it will possibly be late this afternoon..

Was that with Burstbuckers too. It's better but still not level. I'm controlling the levels with the volume controls instead now.

Re: Burstbuckers in Epiphone Les Paul

Turns out it was an electronic problem rather than the height of the pickups. Had the pots re-wired and all is good. Guitar sounds excellent....would recommend Burstbuckers to anyone now
