HNGD.. 2001 epiphone les paul standard desert burst

just picked this beauty. I was very surprised at the weight of this thing. it is close to 10 pounds. I love the color and fit and finish are awesome. the EMG 81/85 set might have to go for some classic 57's but I will give them a fair chance. I will say that it sustains for days.

not really sure why it is a limited edition. so any facts you guys can give me to better tell me what she really is and what she is made out of. all I know is it is korean which supposed to make it better some how and color is desert burst. and the serial is 9 digits long I01042xxx. also is the white aged from factory or is what I am seeing real yellowing?. the tuners are almost a mint green now

thanks again for the great site and all the info you guys give

These days Epi is making their standard run LP's out of mahogany with a maple veneer. Since yours was made in 2001, it most likely has a maple cap on top of a mahogany body, which would explain the weight. Plus, it's not weight relieved in any way. The book matched top was done with a maple veneer.

Yup. And it looks better then the Gibson Desi Burst (they rim burst it and put too much 'black' at the edges. Not nearly as cool,..and no 'teardrop' shape in the middle.)

Re: HNGD.. 2001 epiphone les paul standard desert burst

thanks guys.

now to try the 18v mod to see what that does for it. this is my new work horse and it will need to go from clean and sweet to heavy and nasty.

not really sure of the emgs just yet. they seem to get hairy quick on a clean setting with any kind of pick force. have to get used to that
