Multi Effects Unit To Suit Epi Les Paul?

Hi Guys,
As christmas is coming up I am looking to get some new gear for my set up, as it currently stands I have sveral guitars, all cheapies, the most expensive being my epi les paul standard, a zoom 505 multi effects unit, and a marshall mg30dfx.

I am looking for a better multi effects unit similar to the Boss me-50.

What unit should I be looking for??

Cheers

Something that sounds better and has the effects you desire. IMO multieffects are quite seldom the substitute to the real deal, analog is the way to go if you want good tone.

So, the real question is, what exactly do you want?

I like old school pedals, but I am also digging the Digitech RP500.

Is Line6 X3 Live any good? I'd love analogs too but they suck up my lunch money like a leech once you start, you can never stop adding on.

Re: Multi Effects Unit To Suit Epi Les Paul?

Dont get me wrong, Id love to have analog gear but it just isnt in my price range.
Cheers for the suggestions guys, keep em coming,

So far I have come up with these,
1. Korg AX3000G - Korg AX3000G, Guitar Multi-Effect Processor, Multi-effects Effects

2. Boss ME-50 - Boss ME-50, Guitar Multi Effects Pedal, Multi-effects Effects

Are they worth it?

Are they both crap?

Cheers Guys

If its in your price range take a look at the Vox Tonelab LE.

DigiTech GSP1101.
I just bought one and it's fantastic. The effects are very good and really sound like the stompboxes they emulate. I'm not using the preamp/modeling section of it but I messed with it a bit and it does sound very good.
The GSP is replacing a TC Electronics G-Major. The G-Major was good but the GSP is better.

I would second that. The Tonelab LE is very versatile, lots of stompboxes, amp modellers and mods/delay/reverb.

Re: Multi Effects Unit To Suit Epi Les Paul?

im using a boss gt3. for $100-150 used it's about as cheap as their pedal tuner, but it will most likely offer some effect you like. its all digital, but the effects are convincing enough for many to use it live or for studio recordings. i like mine as much as my friends analog effects...and its a much cleaner and reliable setup.

check out Katatonia on projectplaylist.com (or itunes?). theyve used a gt3 on most of their songs for years. with enough tweaking you can get some amazing tones. if you just try out the presets it doesnt sound that amazing - so spend some time tweaking it.

EDIT: The ME50 you mentioned is a good unit, but offers less flexibility/range than the gt3/gt5/gt6/gt10. if you dont mind that and can find a good deal on one then go for it. i went with a gt3 because i couldnt find an me50 for less than $150 and my gt3 was $100. you can always turn around and sell it to another aspiring musician

Thanks, Im looking into the GT3, whats the overdrive / distortion sound like on it, looks like a decent unit.

Also Ive been looking at the line 6 Pod 2.0 and Pocket Pod as bothe would keep me happy for a while!! Are they any good? Keeping in mind I want to move into home recording on my PC.

PS. Is the GT3 any good for recording to PC throught the line in jack?

Thanks.

Re: Multi Effects Unit To Suit Epi Les Paul?

i use some metal overdrive/distortion from time-to-time, but i mostly like the mild distortion for an almost clean sound with a slight crunch.

im not sure how good it is personally as im not good enough to home record yet. soon i will try it though. you could probably use it direct input into your computer, as there is a preamp and other settings to help balance levels.

good luck and share your findings. im considering trying to use my gt3 as a preamp with a mic...not sure if it will work, but it will probably sound better than direct input.

Re: Multi Effects Unit To Suit Epi Les Paul?

I use the Korg AX1500G the one before the AX3000G it´s good but i can´t mix the different kind of effects i wan´t so i´m going for real pedals no more "multi" for me.
I want to have delay, chorus, and flanger at the same time but i either have to mix flanger and chorus good for clean sound or just delay alone.

Re: Multi Effects Unit To Suit Epi Les Paul?

got me a Digitech RP 500 a month ago....DigiTech® RP500

Sounds good to me, lots of effects, amps, patches that you can fiddle with...
I had been looking for some time for a good multi pedal, at reasonable price, that did
not look like a toy. This thing gets good reviews on harmony central, (yeah, I know..)
and musicians friend, and guitar center.
It also comes with editing software, so you can change and store settings without having to bend down and fiddle with the knobs, which is getting harder for me to do as the years go by.
Also recording software is included, which I have not tried yet.

They also have a forum....DigiTech® Sound Community :: RP500
to ask questions and download, or upload patches from other users..

I figured this thing was a good deal, since buying individual pedals, would cost a lot more in the long run, and the cable nightmare.... no thanks...

I am sure there are many multi pedals that do the same things, but for my money, (which I dont have an abundance of) this thing works nice for me...

just my 2 cents...
