Exclamation Dead note

I put a Gotoh Bridge and tailpiece on my beloved epi lp classic and now, whilst jamming to Stormy Monday, one of the notes (only one as far as I know) went dead ... it happens only on the 18th fret on the high E string when I bend it... That one note just doesn't sustain anymore

Can anyone tell me how to solve this/how this happens? I've already raised the bridge a bit, but to no avail...

Grtz,

Mesa.

Re: Dead note

High 19th fret I am guessing. Perhaps a little 0000 steel wool is in order,

Grtz,

Mesa.
Occurrences such as that are common when changing parts for the sake of change.
How did the guitar sound before? Was there a real problem with the stock bridge?

Re: Dead note

That happened to my Squier, where like four frets on the High e went dead only when I bended them. But I don't think that should happen with ur classic, its probably just "change" as dennis said.

Re: Dead note

Can't see it being the bridge are you sure its not fretting out. String height the same as before? Maybe string gauge change as well as new bridge? New brand of string , relief change when you took the strings off?

Re: Dead note

Have a pro (= luthier) do a nice setup, nut filing, and minor fret leveling for you - well worth the money on ANY guitar, IMO.

Re: Dead note

Well... The new bridge and tailpiece: seemed like a nice upgrade along with a bone nut that I had done a while ago... I just really like my Les Paul and I decided to put some loving into it...

String gauge didn't change: still the same .10 - .46 Elixirs...

It puzzles me...maybe I didn't put enough pressure, being new strings and all?? I think it's that because 5 mins ago, when I really tried, it sustained somewhat...

Grtz and thanks for the response...

Damn it! I knew that the LHC was based upon my awesome bending technique... Talk about copyright infringement...

Re: Dead note

OK... so you have a sting fretting out and as you continue to try it - it gets better?

Get some 0000 steel wool and start rubbing the frets in CIRCULAR motion IN FRONT of the fret that's giving you grief. So if 18 is dying rub from 19 to 22 in a CIRCULAR motion.

Creedence Clearwater Revival
Door To Door lyrics

Find me out awalkin', time the whistle starts acallin',
Maybe stoppin' early, knockin' at your door.
Take so long to answer, Lord knows it ain't the milkman
Could be stoppin' early, sellin' Door To Door.

Here's my latest sample; like to show you how to use it.
First, you pull the curtain while I spread some here.
Wipe the surface gently, try to use a circle motion,
Safe for all your problems, and my price is fair.

This stuff'll get the stain out if you use it loosely wadded;
This here'll take the pain out and won't mess your hair.
Place your order early 'cause you know I'm in a hurry;
Your neighbor's in her doorway, won't you sign right here.

Place your order early 'cause you know I'm in a hurry;
Your neighbor's in her doorway, won't you sign right here.

Man is on the last train, all that work and no play,
Could be stoppin' early, knockin' at your door.
Time for me to head on; pack my kit and 'So long';
Catch you bright and early sellin' Door To Door.

This stuff'll get the stain out if you use it loosely wadded;
This here'll take the pain out and won't mess your hair.
Place your order early 'cause you know I'm in a hurry;
Your neighbor's in her doorway, won't you sign right here.

Place your order early 'cause you know I'm in a hurry;
Your neighbor's in her doorway, won't you sign right here.
Place your order early 'cause you know I'm in a hurry;
Your neighbor's in her doorway, won't you sign right here.
(repeat 2x)
