Certainly looks far more red than the subtle amber and toffee colours of my 2008 honeyburst but if you like it (and I have to say I think its great) then thats all that matters

Re the ding - I wouldn't even bother filling it, its a battle scar! But if you do want to repair it have a go yourself - Take a look at the Stewart MacDonald site - They'll have all the fillers and tools you'll need. Stewart-MacDonald: Everything for building and repairing stringed instruments!

I think we're similar people. I took the guitar back up a couple of years ago after playing in my last band 29 years ago. What you will find amazing is the amount of resources available now that were never available before. DVD tutorials, backing tracks, Youtube vids and online tutorial sites. How many of us learnt lead solos back then by continually picking the needle up and down off a record to try to work out the notes - I always buggered up the records before I got half the solo nailed

One site that I definitely recommend you look at is nextlevelguitar.com

You can see a load of their lessons free on Youtube and if you like what you see you can subscribe really cheaply to get access to all of their lessons on their website. I have no connection with nextlevelguitar - I just think the site is run by a really cool guy (David Taup) who has helped me a lot.

Good luck and happy playing!!
+1 I to have agree about Next level. I have no conection to him but Taup really seems to know his shit. And congrats bro on a smokin deal and agreat LP. Enjoy it and let us know when she comes in.

I think 88 was the first year of LP production from Epi, the headstock is different but the stock pickups suck ass, those however are not stock.

I would buy it just for giggles, I may try to find an 88 or 89 myself.

Re: Might have a line on an '89 Epi LP Std Plus . . . Worth it?

Well, she's here! I got home, opened the packing and tightened up the strings. Didn't get to play with it too much because the in-laws are here and we had to have dinner.

The seller included some new strings since the ones on were a bit old, but I couldn't wait to play so I tuned up the older ones and noodled a bit. It really reminded me how long it's been since I played. I'm going to string it up with the new ones and let 'er settle a bit before I sit down seriously.

There are few more nicks and such in the finish than were apparent in the photos. But nothing bad. Definitely worth the money. I'll probably touch 'em up with fingernail polish or the Stew Mac kit just to keep the finish from chipping. I might go for a full refinish some day.

Pics tomorrow, in the daylight.

Re: Might have a line on an '89 Epi LP Std Plus . . . Worth it?

Well, I just restrung the guitar and I noticed that the frets were pretty notched. But doesn't look like they're worn too low, so I might have to bring it in to have a pro set up done.

Luckily, I'm such a novice guitar player, that I'll be focusing more on conditioning my hand and holding chords than bending or doing anything that should require that too soon. Took a pic of it when I was restringing, but will upload that with the rest I take tomorrow.

It sounds pretty good, considering my poor stringing/tuning job and the fact I'm playing it really low because it's late and I'm in a town house. I might have to put it away for the night.

A good fret level will probably take care of the notches. Looking forward to seeing some pix!

I love a beat up guitar - as long as the wear is honest.

Re: Might have a line on an '89 Epi LP Std Plus . . . Worth it?

Ask, and yes shall receive.

Here are a few smaller pics with links to their Flickr pages. I suppose I should put these up on the forum gallery, eh?

Serial Num. MIK - 1989 - Prod Num 2789.

You can slightly see the notching on the second fret under the third string. It's not too severe. Probably will have the frets leveled, though.

...And the little pignose amp. Sounds pretty good and it was about all I had money left over for.

The case is a bit beat up. one of the latches doesn't quite snap tight and the finish it peeling slightly. I might tape it down with a little gaffers tape. I don't suppose there are any chances this could be woth anything and I risk messing that up, is there?

Yea, thats definetely worth 275 dollars dude! That flame looks amazing! I wonder what pickups are on it? And i love the tuners epi used to put on the les paul way more than the ones they put on now.

The pups are supposedly Rio Grande BBQ Humbuckers. I wouldn't really know But they sound good. Still learning how to get different tones out of this thing and the little pignose amp.

Yeah. The closer I look at the flame, the cooler it looks to me. I'm still not sure about the color though. I think I'll call it Honeydark Burst. Hahah!
