Re: Pick up

The most universal answer is going to be the JB, but there are tons out there.

Re: Pick up

GFS has some hot pickups...but how hot are you talking? Hot for some may not be hot for others.

Re: Pick up

I wouldnt take a JB. I made bad experiences in mahaogony guitars because the lack of clarity. But I have to say it sounded great in other guitars with other woods.

Assuming he has the humbucker model LP Jr, why not just use an SD Alternative 8, SH-15? It already has an Alnico 8 bar in it.

Is the Alt.8 the same as a JB-8, i.e. same guage wire, number of winds, etc. but just has an A8 instead of an A5? Are they similarly priced and available used? If the Alt8 is a lot more expensive, a used JB is available cheap on ebay and the magnet should only be around $10

Re: Pick up

If it's a HB type Jr, then put a Phat Cat or some other HB sized P90. Les Paul Jr's are meant to have P90s in them. It's blasphemous to do otherwise imho.
