Changing strings

Pardon me if this has been asked before, but when you all change your strings do you change them one at a time or all at once. I have heard its best to do one at to keep the tens ion on the neck. But doing only one time seeems to be counter productiveto cleaning the fretboard

Re: Changing strings

If you need to change strings a lot, but not clean the fretboard, changing one at a time is recommended to avoid any neck shifts, parts falling off, etc...but if you need to clean the fretboard, they all come off...but one at a time!!

Re: Changing strings

You're supposed to change them? I just buy a new guitar. But now that I think of it, it would be a lot cheaper that way!

Seriously though, as posted above - all at once if you want to clean the board and one at a time otherwise. And don't cut the old ones off. I know that it seems like a no brainer, but I have seen someone do that once. A string winder is also a good thing to have, only costs a couple of bucks and well worth it.

The Guitar Dater web site does NOT help you determine if a guitar is real or fake. It ONLY decodes the serial number and it does not decode any sn newer than 2008.

Re: Changing strings

I wish I put locking tuners on all me guitars, as it makes string changes much faster and easier.

Re: Changing strings

One at a time, when i clean the fretboard, i slide a cloth under the strings and put pressure on and around the strings, onto the cloth, to clean the fretboard. 1st fret is usually the only tricky one.
