Standard and Standard Plus Top (difference?)
You guys seem to know a lot about Epiphone guitars...so
I've been wondering for the longest time now, but what's the difference between the Standard and the Standard Plus Top? On the site they seem to be listed differently, but the specs appear to be the same. Any ideas? Higher quality top? Just a name? |

Re: Standard and Standard Plus Top (difference?)
I think the Standards are plain tops and the Standard Plus are flame tops.
I'm not 100% sure on that though.

Re: Standard and Standard Plus Top (difference?)
Weird, I searched musicians friend and it only has Epiphone Les Paul Standards.. which have flame tops(although I think remember reading that they are stickers), and Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain tops..which obviously have plain tops. Can you post a link? They probably sound the same though, one just with a cooler top.
![]() Maybe I got something confused, I'll check GC.com too.

Re: Standard and Standard Plus Top (difference?)
This one is a standard weird thing is i'm pretty sure i've seen standards with flame tops also.
Epiphone Musical Instruments Then the standard plus... Epiphone Musical Instruments Again the standard on MS. Buy Epiphone Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar online at Musician's Friend And the Standard Plus on Zzounds... Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus from zZounds.com! It said something about veneer on the musiciansfriend specs, but I think the Plus top is also that, or maybe the standard has a carved top, while the Plus top has real maple....? They seem to be similar maybe even the same guitar, but they are being sold under different names. I always see standard plus Les Pauls in stores now though. |

Re: Standard and Standard Plus Top (difference?)
Lemme help you out guys.
The Epiphone Les Paul Standard is only available in ebony. The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top has, obviously, a plain top. They're available in Honey Burst, Vintage Sunburst and Heritage Cherry Sunburst. The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus has a flame top. Same colors as the plain top, plus Translucent Blue and Trans Amber. The specs are the same on all of them. The only difference is the top. The flame top is not a sticker, it's a maple veneer. Some guys around here can also tell you how thick the veneer is but I don't know. Take a look here. It's all there. |

It doesn't really matter, both want to be Gibsons.

Re: Standard and Standard Plus Top (difference?)
![]() I own a plus top....I actually like the "natural faux look" of the plaintops...especially in the cherry and VS.... ![]() (Now if you were talkin' honeyburst? Well, that's a different story... )

Re: Standard and Standard Plus Top (difference?)
I may add that my boys blue plus top has Grovers while a standard I have has Klusen type Epi (junk) tuners. His is 1 mo. old and came set up perfect and the neck is just perfect also. The down side is it listed out around $650.

Re: Standard and Standard Plus Top (difference?)
All newer Standards come with Grovers, the Klusen Epi Tuners were pretty much just on the Korean models to my knowledge.

Re: Standard and Standard Plus Top (difference?)
Thanks, man. Just tried to clear the confusion.
![]() Think you're right on this. When you take a look at the Epi site all the Standards have Grovers. My '03 MIK Epi LP Classic (yeah, I eventually received it, if you remember the story) also came with Grovers. But I think that was a Classic model privilege back then, not 100% sure, though. |

Re: Standard and Standard Plus Top (difference?)
I also have the plus top in blue. There is a big difference in tuners! I love my grovers. The tops on the plus blues are beautiful. My opinion, they are the nicest tops on an epi les paul.
