NGD (Standard Plus Top)
sorry,but this is going to be a long first post. I'm back in the LP club. traded my 2009 Epi LP Standard off back in March for a Custom made Thinline Tele. while I liked the LP,it bothered my fretting hand,(I had carpal tunnel for years. had surgey almost 3 years ago to fix both hands.) due to the chunky neck. (I also had to change the neck on my American Special Strat,as the jumbo frets were causing the same discomfort.) about a month or so ago,I determined that the Thinline was bothering my hand too,so I decided to let it go. what good is it sitting on the rack not getting played anyway,plus I have a Fender Thinline. posted it on CL. ended up taking a chance on an Epi SG. it's a 66 reissue with a slim tapered neck. been playing it the last couple of weeks,and no problem with my fretting hand. love this guitar!! the bridge pup was sounding super muddy and not very loud. pulled the back cover off,all the wiring looked good. futzed with the pots a little,and found the tone pot for the bridge pup was ever so slightly loose. tightened it up,plugged it,all is good to go.
 I was in Guitar Center last week and noticed that the new Epi LP Standard's have the slim tapered neck. after talking to the salesman (who happens to be one of the few in there that actually knows something) it seems the SG and the LP have the "same" slim tapered neck. sold a bike on CL,add some birthday cash from the other day,a %15 off coupon,and I found myself at GC ready to order a new Epi LP! I knew they didn't have the one I wanted in stock (Translucent Amber),they didn't have any Standard's actually,all sold out. when the salesman looked it up online "out of stock until Sept. 24th",and with only 82 on order I started looking at the used stuff. made a few calls in the parking lot to some other GC's,all the used Amber ones had the regular chunky type necks that will not work for me. being frustrated I went home. decided to go with option two,the Honey colored one. looked it up on the GC website (which by the way,is doing some wonky stuff) "availble in select stores". I called four stores here in the Northwest,and once I told them I wanted it shipped to Oregon they told me to go back to my local store and have them order it for me,that's a 25 mile trip for me,and I just came from there! finally a salesman at a store in San Marcos,near San Diego wanted to take my money. very polite,nice and informative guy.(Michael V is his name.) after all was said and done I got the guitar for $420,with free shipping. list was $499.it's on sale for this weekend only,so I didn't even have to use my %15 off coupon. it will not ship until Tuesday due to Memorial Day,but at least I will have one before September. enough of the back story,on to some pics.......     these are the only pics I have until the guitar arrives. lots of glare and not the best pics,but at least he was kind enough to take the time to snap them and send them to me. looks pretty good to me from the pics. being GC,I have 30 days to try it and see how it is,or return it for a full refund. I hope it arrives next Friday or Saturday. need to call back on Wed. and get a tracking number. |

Hmm I think Gibson 57' are good pickups for this aswell. But pearly gates are really nice.

finally got a tracking number from GC. didn't ship until yesterday. takes four days to box it up and get it ready to ship! will not be here until Monday. gonna be a long weekend.

Is this a "heritage cherry sunburst"
I like so bad, I just bid a similar one last week and this color is awesome, but doesn´t looks "cherry" to me. I thought that was translucent, because side by side with a honey burst looks lighter. Congrats !!! Quote:
