I've been playing my Les Paul for some 3-4months now. Last month, the guitar fell from my hands (because I didn't have a strap-lock installed which I later did). Nothing much happened cuz it fell on the output jack. The fall broke the cord's pin completely.
But, it was playing fine since then. But yesterday, when I started playing, I had a very signal from the bridge pickup. I panicked! After a few knocks and reconnecting the processor, it started working again! But, ever since then, I can't have good sleep. Did I damage my baby?

Re: Had a Weak Signal the other day. Should I be worried?
It's likely the output jack. That's a very easy change out. Buy a Switchcraft, I think they're only 5 or 6 dollars. You could also pull the output jack out and see if your instrument cable it getting a good connection when plugged in and maybe tweak it a little rather than replacing. Me, I'd just put a new one in.

Re: Had a Weak Signal the other day. Should I be worried?
I had something like this happen to my '95 Les Paul TV Special recently.
I had had a replacement set of P-90's put in, finally getting rid of the original P-100's. Anyhow, about 4 months my bridge pickup didn't die completely, but became extremely weak. The neck pickup was fine. I wondered if I had broken a winding or something. It turned out that the issue was not the pickups or their wiring. The culprit was the pickup selector toggle switch. Once it was replaced, all is well. |
