What Makes My Epi LP Limited Edition?
Hey everyone, I bought my Epi a couple years ago and love it...I have it sounding better and playing better than any Gibson I've played yet ;]
However... It has the limited edition stamp on the back of the headstock...but it looks like a regular old LP Standard Transparent Amber Flame Top that they sell all the time and still make...(in the pics you can see mini switches and new pickups, I added them all...but it was bone stock when I bought it) I looked up the serial number and know its Korean and was made in 2002. I honestly can't find anything that makes it limited edition but I was curious as to whether or not it might be some kind of 50th anniversary dealio...? Probably not but just a guess...I'm pretty sure the LP debuted in '52 and that gives mine the old 5-0 anniversary...but I dunno....ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS?!?!? ;] ![]() ![]() ![]() i had to let my strat hang out in the pic ;]

Re: What Makes My Epi LP Limited Edition?
its possible that its an anni. edition, but I think it would be marked.
I think the more likely thing is that it that finish wasn't offered wide-spread at the time and your finish is a "custom" finish from the Epiphone Custom Shop. another thing might be the kind of wood used in it, perhaps pure mahogany or a true maple cap. Odds are you probably will never know because Epi puts out hundred of custom models and no one knows just exactly why. Sorry, maybe someone else could help you out more than I. |

Re: What Makes My Epi LP Limited Edition?
yeah i think so to...it just has the regular LE stamp....
and thats a good thought, maybe transparent amber wasn't out yet in mass production and after thoroughly looking over the wood on my guitar, I do have a solid 1 piece mahogany body and the flame maple top seems preeeety legit to me...It also has a maple neck with rosewood board...but I'm pretty sure most Epi LP's have a maple neck and yeah you are right there are tons of random Epi LE's that I keep seeing pop up here and there... thanks for the input! and btw...your picture is freakin hilarious

Re: What Makes My Epi LP Limited Edition?
Marketing ideas mostly! Most Epi necks are Manmogany not maple. Did you ad the mini switches? Some LTDs are market testers and some are for certin Countries etc. Like last year in Canada and a few other places, they had a black custom with p-90s and a LP special a little different than the Lp specials they had out in the past. Also this year they have brought back the Gold top classic only for 08 and it has Seymour Duncan Alnico II pros.

I suspect that it may have been a special run 'exclusive' for one of the mass retailers.
By the way, beautiful Ford in your avatar. |

Re: What Makes My Epi LP Limited Edition?
Hey everyone thanks for the responses!
to overdriver- yeah i added the mini switches and pickups and some other mods, but when i took out the pickups they were regular epiphones...and maybe its the fact that it has a maple neck is what makes it LE...i personally like the maple neck, a little bit more snap, and all i needed was a little bit fatter pups ;] to gibiphone- i know man i love that stang...i personally have a red 03 stang with a 5-speed...but i saw that one at a car show in new smyrna beach and i needed to take a great pic of it haha...1966 Mustang King of the Road edition....SMOKIN.... to vito- hey thanks man! i think its a pretty guitar too ;] and man your white custom is a beauty! and about the mini switches...they are dpdt on/on/on switches which allow me to have series/split/parallel options for each pickup....series is regular humbucking mode, split allows just one of the coils to play so its basiclaly single coil mode (not really a strat sound like most people go for...but i get a damn good Brian May tone out of it!!!) and parallel is when the two single coils of the humbucker are run separately but together, so its hum cancelling and is kind of a brighter cleaner humbucker....the switches are awesome, really useful, and easy to put in!! thanks again for all the responses! i think i might just be happy believing its LE cause of the maple neck ;] haha
